airbar install

Started my airbar install last night and it seems the bottom bar that mounts to the axle, will not bolt easy to the axle. The dowls that position the axle seem spread out a but more than my axle mounting plates ( maybe a1/2 inch),any ideas what could be done should I drill bigger holes for dowl's so there is some adjustment? anyone have this problem?

Re: airbar install

I didn't have this problem. Calling ART or PM'ing Juan would probably be your best bet to get more info.

it will fit if use a 2 inch block it fist no prob, I think this is strange but maybe it gives me a bit more clearance because the dowel on the blocks is smaller than on the airbar.

Re: airbar install

It's suppose to be very tight fitting there is nothing wrong. Do what you have to do to get them lined up and do not drill them out! I remember using a small breaker bar.

Re: airbar install

I don't recommend using block with this kit, this bar(with the lower bag mounts) locate most of the axle and need to be very very snug. Using blocks you can break off the locater pin for the axle, not to metion throw off the instant center quite a bit.

Re: airbar install

I will try it to use a pry bar and get it in. I don't want to use any block either, The guy who sold me the kit said to use the blocks due to wheel hop. I think if I mes with my pinion angle I will not have any issue with wheel hop.

Got it almost in need to drill 6 holes then thats it! I got it in had to line 1 up then use a pair of channel locks to squeeze in the other side. This kit was cake to install but I would make 1 recommendation "remove the bed" soo much nicer to work on it from the top! I will post some pictures later, This kit is very high quality I must say!

Re: airbar install

Just finished the airbar install and went very smooth. I must say the guys at Air Ride Technologies have done their homework and this kit is awesome I am very pleased. It is not layin frame but I still need to bag the front and get a little closer to mother earth! as for mow I am going to install my compressor and tank and air it up and see how it rides. I have called ART a few times and the always give a fast response with the correct info, Thanks guys You have a customer for life!

Re: airbar install

Ok haven't gotten the compressor or tank in, The reason is I could not wait so I got a manual fill valve and air that up.
question #1 what is every one running as far as psi in the rear?
question #2 I want to mount the air tank under the bed so what has anyone else used?
I am also having a issue with wheel hop but called art today and he helped me big! Thanks man.

Re: airbar install

no they said that take a angle finder and measure the top of the air bar at the bracket and measure the bottom and make sure the 2 points will intersect in front of the rear axle and not the back, if the 2 measurements will intersect in rear of axle then wheel hop will occur. He also said at ride height the bags will be inflated @ 60psi, my problem is the truck is riding pretty high at 40-50 psi so I am going to have to mess with m,y pinion angle for the hop and maybe add blocks to ride lower when fully inflated. just a thought any input is appreciated, I hope you can understand what I was talking about.

Re: airbar install

So do I like a 1 inch above the wheel or lower. I will play with my pinion angle and measurements like he told me, and if it still has problems I will add the block then.

Re: airbar install

keep in mind that pressure vs. height is a big misconception. The F9000 is designed to ride at 9" to 9.5" at ride height, so it doesn't matter if the pressure is 10psi or 110psi as long as the bag is 9-9.5" tall at ride height.

I see but the more pressure the more spring rate it (stiffer). I installed a 2 inch block and the wheel hop is almost gone I need to change pinion angle and play with pressures now but without the block I did not like the height it rode(I like to ride low)

Just brought to the ride height I like and I have 33 psi in the bags. What is everyone running in their rear setup's and what height are you guys? I am also interested in the performance side of this kit similar to the site and autocross, I will be upgrading to the single adjustable for the front and rear but having a hard time deciding on shockwaves for the front or regular bags. any thought?

true, but the bag performs its best at the suggested ride height, you can maintain that height and adjust the psi by 5-7 pounds which wount change the height but will completely change how the truck handles

Re: airbar install

I ran mine at 50psi, but I also had a bed cover and 4-12's in the bed plus some misc. weight. Ride height was pretty good, it still looked lowered. Played with the pinion, wheel hop was minimal.

I think if I have weight in the bed of course I will need more psi, but my wheel hop is a minimum now after the blocks, I will still mess with it. what is everyone running in the front? I am interetsed in shockwaves from a performace standpoint.

I had the Cool Ride w/ lower arms and 2" drop spindles. Started out running 90lbs. to keep from scrubbing the tires, but kept breaking the DS shock tab on the arm. Talked to ART and they told me to drop to 80lbs., so I did, had no more trouble w/ the shock tab, and tire scrub was small. I don't remember the diameter of the tires though.

I used the bolt in raised cross member from suicide doors. I just asked if they could leave the tabs off and I would weld them in myself. Have fun with it. The airbar is a great system for what it is for.
