Question before I order, again

So if I order the bolt-on axle mounts for the S-10, how long of a lower bar will I need to order? I know the first time I got them they were 24", but those links I left in LA as they were really rusted from the flooding and years of sitting after the first guy to try the 4-link failed. Anyway, heres the pics of what I was left with, can I salvage them and reinforce them later? or cut it all loose and start over? I know I need to cut loose the bag mounts if you can see them in the pics. He tried to weld them to the parts where the frame and front gas tank mount meet. He also burnt through the body support for clearance, which aint so bad I guess. Im trying to save some money as I need to rebuild the tranny still and Ive already bought one cantilever 4-link already and the wife doesnt like spending money on this. This is the way I had to drive this thing home, with the 4-link bolted in and had to go back and redo the leafs and shocks, it was a rough ride if I remember rightTo tell you the truth, I forgot about all this stuff that was already welded in and done! I guess I dont need that 10 bolt bolt-in really.

Opinions?

Re: Question before I order, again

ok, upon a little further investigation by me and a yard stick
As it sits right now the lowers are about 26" and the uppers are 20" where the mounts sit for now. Good, bad, replace it all?

Re: Question before I order, again

You really don't want those bolted to the hangers in the factory spot. The front of the bar will be hanging to low & could drag off...

Re: Question before I order, again

ok, so I spent some time under it and put some thought into it. Im thinking of doing the bolt-on axle brackets, something around a 25" lower adjustable bar, 26" or so rear square bar with a bag mount on top of it, the round upper bag bracket with the bolts of the bag mostly bolted to the frame, but add supports, and then figure out the uppers later. I measured and sure enough the support above the rear end will have to go and get redone, but theres no way Id do the bolt-on diff bracket as it would go WAY too high. Id like my floor to be a close to the one that AVTEKK did as possible as I still need to make room for tanks, 4 12s and 3 amps

Re: Question before I order, again

heres what Im thinking for rear bag placement. It clears the tank the upper will dam near just need some holes drilled and to be supported for extra strength at the upper bag mount

Re: Question before I order, again

I guess I should have said that I will want the rear bars to bolt into the stock rear leaf locations, using the rear shackle as a dog bone to give the swing needed to articulate right

Re: Question before I order, again

you def do not want the shackle to be on the frame in a lift bar setup, you want it to be on the axle, otherwise while the axle travels in its arc, it will pull and push the bag forwards and rearwards out of alignment, putting heavy stress and wear on the bag.

Re: Question before I order, again

yep that will work, its an idea ive been kicking around for my 2 door. You will probably need to either run a slight bend in your lift bars *like the bolt on backhalf* or lower the rear mounting point of the lift bar so the bag isnt at such extreme angles at all times

Re: Question before I order, again

Ok, well I ordered! I got my buddy sending me my 4-link I left in LA. Got the left bar axle brackets, under frame 4-link mounts, bolts, and a bunch of tabs to replace all that stuff in the pics and reinstall the link as well as 2 new ones to make this thing lay out. Next step, the tranny
heres the links hes sending me. I dont know why I left them in LA, I guess it was all the rust on them ,but he cleaned them up for me! Yes those brackets are coming off! thats how the guy tried to install them.

Re: Question before I order, again

damn those brackets would have never worked, you always want the bag as centered over the bar as possible!

Re: Question before I order, again

your telling me and of course you saw the rest. I dont know what happened with this build. The guy that did all this had built a body dropped Hardbody Nissan with a SR20 DET engine and matching 6-speed tranny straight outta Japan with a 300Z independent rearend and Caddy lights. Katrina gave it about 7 foot of water so he had to start over or it might be in the mags by now.

Re: Question before I order, again

I might cut the floor tomorrow if Im not as sick as I think I might be (sick now and getting worse). Im now wondering if I should cut the floor, do a bigger notch and than the 4-link, or can I do the link first? Right now its got a standard bolt-in blazer notch and I dont know if thats going to limit the design of the rear arms for when I go to put some 20s on it later (dont tell the wife) and notch it to lay out.
