EGR Replacement How-To
This is a step-by-step how-to on replacing your EGR valve. If the EGR is faulty it usually just gets stuck and will throw a code (code #???). The engine will run like poo and idle poorly and stall ocasionally. If the EGR is just stuck, sometimes you can get away with just hitting it with something to knock it loose. This will work temporarily but you will need to replace it eventually.

Step one is to remove the intake tube going into the throttle body. There is a connector plugged into the tube, so you will need to disconnect that and pull the entire tube out to gain access. The EGR is located here, underneath the throttle body.

Next you will need to disconnect the electrical connecter that is connected to the EGR. To remove the EGR from the engine, remove the bracket that is bolted to the back of the a/c compressor. There is a 14mm nut and a 13mm bolt.

With the bracket removed you now have an easy way to remove the EGR valve. Now, remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the EGR to the engine.

The EGR can now be pulled out with a little playing. If you inspect the EGR you will notice that there is a valve that acceps a torx bit. This is the valve that gets stuck. Notice the valve on the left is stuck, while the new one is not.

This is what the new EGR looks like. Installation is reverse of removal. Be sure to put the new gasket on. You may need a dab of grease or something to help keep it in place. This is where the magnet will come in handy just in case you drop one of the bolts. After everything is back together, go ahead and disconnect the battery for a minute or two. This will clear the code from the computer. Reconnect the battery and re-set your presets on your stereo.
