Shuddering breaks

Brakes shuddering badly when stopping. Even do it when i'm cruising at 15 to 20 mph after the break....then it gradually goes away till i break again.

Warped rotors? Frozen calipers?

Gotta be honest. haven't researched yet but I'm on that now. figured I'd throw that out while it was fresh in my mind.

Thanks.

my car does it though only when breaking, warped rotors on it, it normally comes from tire techs over torquing the rims. time for a tear down on the breaks and see.

its kinda nice after a long road trip, offers a hand massage

Re: Shuddering breaks

Had my tire guy rotate my tires and take a look at the breaks briefly. He said left side rotor is badly warped, and caliper is slow opening back up so it rubs for a bit at takeoff.

You're right. time for a tear down.

would over torquing really do that? i would imagine it more so when they (rotors) are hot.

its happened twice to me, first time i had just replaced the rotors(one that came with the car had a crack in it) had smooth breaking, we had the tires replaced shortly after and with in a month they were shuttering, took the rotors to a break shop(a friend owns it) and they were warped, they fixed the rotors and no problems in tell my brother in law borrowed the car right before our wedding and had the tires replaced on it. by the time we got back from our honeymoon(road trip honeymoon) they were shuttering again.

the car has aluminum rims on it and from what my research has told me if you over torquing them will cause spaced between the studs and make the pads warp. ive heard from a friend that over torquing the caliper bolts will do the same, but no personal experience and the break shop or my dad(hes been wrenching since the 70's) buy it.

if anything, tear it all down and if anything use it as an excuse to upgrade the breaks

I think I'm just going to end up changing rotors/ calipers & pads on both sides just to be safe.

Any recommendations on brands? I know you get what you pay for but i am on a budget. ACdelco can get pricey, but they are the only ones i know would be worth it. Preferably calipers i can get loaded already with pads.

Thanks for the input.

well, ive always gone through checkers(when we have them) and napa(my dads work gets a 40% discount with both places) so im honestly not sure of best brand and pricing but ive been happy with what we get from them

Re: Shuddering breaks

Start with the rotors, dont just throw parts at it, this way if you do it in steps you will no for future reference and it may be far more cost effective.

The caliper sticks bad anyway, and i need pads anyway Wouldn't want to change the rotors only to have the old caliper damage the new rotor. It looks bad. loaded caliper/ pad sets are not that expensive and i would feel safer with new parts.

Still solving the tranny issue anyway. Don't need brakes if the thing is on jack stands.

Thanks for the input!
