Re: rear window squeak???

Its been years since I had to chase a noise in the back of one of those. I seem to recall a work latch and at one time there was some felt stuck to a latch that was worn thin causing a rattle I think.
Another thing your buddy could try is cleaning the seal and applying some pertrolium jelly, KY jelly, anal eze, what ever. Even on the door seal.
My Camaro flexing would cause a squeak from the door seals rubbing. New seals snugged it all up.

Re: rear window squeak???

I get the very same issue with my jimmy every couple of months.....to take care of it all I do is take some lithium grease and spread it on the latching part that is on the glass.....the squeeking is coming from the metal on metal of the portion in the tailgate and the portion on the glass.

Re: rear window squeak???

At first I used a piece of copper( it does not squeak). Then I used some petroleum jelly. It has been 3 months with no squeak.

Re: rear window squeak???

I wraped a thin piece of copper around the metal part on the window. A piece of 1/4 tubing split lengthwise will work. The only problem is the latch in the tailgate will chew up the copper after a while.

I have the same problem the latch it self on the window part is worn from striking the latch itself.

Re: rear window squeak???

Quote:
1. Open the tailgate and hatch.
2. Remove the inner panel from the gate.
3. Loosen the latch mechanism hold down bolts on the gate.
4. Get inside with a screwdriver and the 10 mm socket.
>5. Close the gate. Close the hatch.
6. Using the screwdriver for leverage, put the screwdriver in the latch mechanism and pull it snugly shut.
7. Tighten down the latch.
8. Open the gate and hatch.
9. Reinstall the inner panel.
10. Go for a ride.
Listen to the exhaust, the stereo and all sorts of other sounds with no annoying hatch rattle!

Re: rear window squeak???

My problem with that was the latch AND the hinges that connect the glass to the top. Pop the plastic covers off the part on the glass & there should be 3 torx screws i believe. Tighten em up

I ended up doing that, greased the latch, & used weather stripping to finally get that under control.

elec tape on the glass catch works but wears out quick. been there

Re: rear window squeak???

i just fliped the hook around. and installed thiner shim....if u look at it the latch catches slightley off center so by flipping it u get back to the unused metal and the thinner shim makes it suck in tighter...seams to work pretty good i only get noise on realy hard jolts( but then everthing rattles!)
