no key and need to move it
Hello. I have a 1986 GMC Jimmy low rider with convertible back and we just got. My dads boss got a new building and there was a lot of crap in it. So there was 3 trucks in there that some one was storing. 2 of the trucks are gone now and we get the Jimmy the only problem is no keys to the jimmy and we need to push it out of the building so we can get it towed to are place. Is there away to get the truck in gear and get the steering wheel unlocked? All so the truck is not running its been sitting for 6+years.
here are some pics. ![]() ![]() |

Re: no key and need to move it
Pop a door lock if it's the same key as the ignition and have one made. If not, go by a new ignition cylinder and replace the old one...cheap and fast.
Edit...they are different...get a new igniton cylinder Last edited by Rhotpursuit : 11-06-2009 at 04:45 PM. |

Re: no key and need to move it
take the driveshaft out.....four 11mm bolts at the axle....then wrap a sandwhich bag around the tail shaft of the trans and secure the bag with an elastic band or tie it on nice n tight with string. ...FAST AND FREE!!!!!!!

Re: no key and need to move it
I agree with the ignition switch, buy a new key switch, pull the steering wheel dig in a little bit and replace it with a new one. Put it back together and your golden! But if all you need to do is move it, just pull the steering wheel and remove the lockplate with the GM lockplate remover tool, but ya if you replace the whole key switch then you can pull the shifter out of park, or as mentioned above, the shifter on the side of the tranny is easy to unhook and shift it out of Park.

Re: no key and need to move it
well you can allways just break the egnition switch and turn it, allows you to shift into N and unlocks the steering, best method if you dont want to spend $$$ right away
my key broke wile i was at the mall, tried to get it started, long story short, undercover came, i explained the problem, gave my I.D. and then the cop told me how to pretty much steal a s10 blazer, he must know cause he got my truck running with a pair of sizzers so i could get home what he said was to get a flat head screwdriver (about the size of the key hole), put it in the slot and use a 4lb sledge hammer to bang it in to break the pins, you do that and turn the screw driver to "start", you will be able to shift to N and unlock the steering assuming all goes as planned your gunna have to buy a new egnition switch anyway due to you not having a key, and like you said, "its not running" so you wont have a problem with someone trying to steal it, lol |
