Need Help!! Blazer Wont Start

So i was driving home from work, on low fuel and suddenly i heard a loud pop, and my '89 2.8l 5-speed blazer turned off on the freeway. i coasted on to the shoulder and waited for a friend to bring me some gas. i filled up the tank and tried starting my blazer. nothing. it wouldnt turn over. it wasnt seized cause the belts would turn when i tried to start it. any ideas whats going on. i dont have any money to get it looked at right now. Any ideas or help would awesome!

The pop was probably a backfire. But keep in mind that when you run your tank low on fuel the fuel pump over heats and that causes them to burn out, the fuel in the tank is what keeps them cool. So you could have very well messed up the fuel pump. Then again if it's a carb and not fuel injection, nevermind what I just said.

I'd check the pickup coil and ignition module before I tore into the gastank.
