Blazer Not Running

Alright guys, had my 90 blazer sitting for about 6 to 7 months now without running got a notice from the city its gotta move, rebuilt the TBI and threw in a new fuel filter because it is not getting fuel, still not getting fuel runs with starting fluid but thats it?

Gotta keep this on the cheap as I am broke but gotta move it tonight as ive got the city inspection tomorrow and if its here I get an 1100$ fine, runs fine with starting fluid, disconnected the fuel lines and the fuel pump is pumping out alot of fuel so that seems ok where do I go next?

Re: Blazer Not Running

if its not feeding fuel to hte TB I would check the lines at the TB end make sure nuttin is kinked.....or all of them for that matter....or you could have some sediment stuck to the pump in the tank not allowing the furl to flow.....i assuming that you hear the pump kicking on when the key is turned.....but suttin is stopping it along the way.....lines could bust rusted swollen to restrict the flow...if it is a bad line good thing is the fuel line can be replaced with rubber fuel line from you local auto parts retailer.

Re: Blazer Not Running

Yeah I am getting plenty of fuel flow at the lines, one injector barley drips fuel and the other one does nothing.

Re: Blazer Not Running

Alright this is odd, just pulled codes got code 22 TPS voltage to low will this cause the truck to not run? Also the TPS is on the passenger side attached to the throttle shaft? Cause I aint got one and I never messed with anything there since it ran, never had issues before and there is a plug with three wires, Black,Gray and Black with a blue stripe or its just blue not sure, anyways its right in that area not hooked up to anything no one has stolen anything as vehicle is secure anyone got any thoughts?

Re: Blazer Not Running

thats the TPS

Thats the connector....

if the tps is not on the TB then the truck will not run in the least bit.....and seeing the code is there you should just replace or put one on ....its telling you theres a fault in that sensor......like 50 bucks at autozone......

did you maybe forget to put it back on when you rebuilt the TB????

Re: Blazer Not Running

Re: Blazer Not Running

Dude , the TPS had to have been on there at some time. If you really knew your way around cars you would know this. Seeing how you just rebuilt the TB I am guessing you just brain farted and left it off and misplaced it.
Also its easy as pie to use a wrong gasket and have a venturie blocked or plug any of the small passages on a TB.

Re: Blazer Not Running

Hey I do know my way around but I left that part of the TB on the car I only took the top part off thats held down with the three bolts, where the TPS goes(passenger side right) the bolt holes one of them has a bolt hole coming from the other side so it cannot be used the other one is empty and it does not look like anything has been bolted but I am heading to the junkyard tomorrow and gonna grab a few and go from there.

Hopefully I can get this figured out.

Re: Blazer Not Running

Alright well got a TPS on there, I can hear the injectors clicking(got new ones) still not firing pulled fuel line, no fuel but before I did a rebuild fuel was coming out will throw in more gas maybe it needs more but I am kinda frustrated, anything else it could be just wondering for common problems also whats a way to test fuel PSI without special tools as my local parts stores are kinda worthless and I read it was complicated on these things.

Anyways thanks alot guys!

Re: Blazer Not Running

For a guy that knows his way around, things to check on seem to elude you.
I have to ask, did you check your fuses? Hear the pump buzz? Did the pump run long enough to fill the fuel line?

I just had to go through something simular to this with my '90 Blazer. The wiring harness for the fuel pump (the section that has a connector by the back bumper and then runs directly to the pump) could be bad, the ground could be crappy or it could be the pump itself. You can disconnect the connector at the by the bumper and jump it with a 12V souce to see if the pump turns on or not. If it does, could be the relay.....

Re: Blazer Not Running

I have never been able to hear the fuel pump on this truck, I don't have an owners manual/shop manual nor do I have any sort of map for the fuses on this vehicle, I figured like most automotive forums I could just ask the question rather then rolling around in gravel and tumbleweeds.

As far as it running long enough I rolled to key forward to the on position a few times I would imagine long enough to fill the fuel lines, wait now that I think about it before when I checked to see if I was getting fuel it would only send fuel when I had the vehicle running with a separate fuel source, like on key on or cranking no fuel would come only when the vehicle was on? Maybe something to look into? I did check the fuses they were good.

We are still not at that technological age where vehicles can be fixed over the phone or web. There is still the need for hands on and diagnosing in person is and will always be the best way.
So remember we have no hands on or in person diagnoses here.

You could have a bad relay or ECM or wires. Try some extended cranking until oil pressure builds and see if it gets fuel then. Also pull the gas cap off and put an ear to the filler neck while cranking (if you can do this by yourself post some pics, Could make the record books) and listen for a buzz from the pump.

Re: Blazer Not Running

Will do as far as cranking its been a pain, im a ford guy so I just hook up my remote starter and I can crank without being in the car but no biggie GF is always willing to help me get this thing out sight.

Re: Blazer Not Running

My Blazer had a similar problem. It turned out to be the spongy rubber coupling between the fuel pump and the welded steel pickup tube inside the gas tank. It had a hole in the side and could not build adequate pressure. Before it went completely the motor ran bad, missed etc. I went ahead and put a new pump and strainer in while I had the tank off. Motor runs like brand new now.

Re: Blazer Not Running

To the guy who posted before me dang I hope your wrong but may be right.

So I can hear the fuel pump come on, but it wont start unless I am using starting fluid then it runs fine so I am getting spark too just no fuel out in the injectors also have a spare set of injectors and I can hear both sets clicking so from here I guess see where fuel is not coming out I guess eh?

Re: Blazer Not Running

Alright, so I noticed something odd.

When I roll the key forward to where the ignition is on I can hear the fuel pump running but if I quickly roll it off and back on it does not come back on the key must be off for 5 seconds it seems is this normal?

Anyways I hear it running but I am not getting any fuel to the TBI unit so ive got a blockage somewhere looks like I gotta pull the tank fun stuff.

Re: Blazer Not Running

If you haven't already pull the fuel filter before dropping the tank... Much easier. If there's no fuel in the lines up to the filter then the pumps not working.
