Air Conditioning still work??

I just kinda wanna get an idea on who's 1st Gen factory air conditioning works and who's doesn't. I have a 1994 S10 Blazer with 104K miles on it and the air conditioning is ice cold!! It has been cold here alot, but yesterday it was 85 out and used it for the first time since I bought it and it works perfectly!! At first it was kinda sketchy, it would get cold, then warm up, then get cold again, but after about 15 minuits it was blowing ice cold all the time. I think that it was because it hadn't been used in awhile and took awhile to get the freon through the system again.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

I have a 94 Blazer also, with 165k and mine works. I had to charge it with R12 last summer though. I hope it stays working cause I don't think I have much R12 left, and I don't wanna have to convert it.

Mine is a 87 and was working good last summer but ran outta r-12. I'm either gonna have to convert or just keep rolling with the windows down.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

Compressor burned out on my 93 about 3 years ago. Had it converted for about 800 bills....worked one summer, window motors still work better..

My 94 compressor started making noise shortly thereafter...I simply disconnected it.

R134 works under higher pressure. I have a 30 lb bottle of r12 in my shop seal still intact plus another bottle about half full.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

Mine stopped getting cold, Disconnected the compressor right before the end of last summer. It would constantly kick on to build up pressure.

85 2.8l compressor froze up and all the freon leaked out, then swapped a 350 in place of the 2.8 and didnt bother to fix the ac. then last summer i swapped a non ac heater box on the firewall.

When I got my '89 blazer the air didn't work. I never really looked at trying to fix it. For all I know it just needs recharged.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

90 blazer with 4.3 and 250k+ blows cold air. Only problems that I have now and need to fix is that it blows out of the defrost vents and the main a/c vents and I have a Very very very slight leak on the hose from the compressor Other than that. it sure does cool you off when you work all day in the heat though

What all did they do? New compressor, dryer, nozzle for the new stuff, and the few pounds you need of refrigerant right?

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

worked, was young and dumb and removed it in high school... COmpletely removed it...everything.

Later down the road, i grew up and put a v8 in it and decided i was going to kill someone if i didnt have ac in my truck when i get off work on a hot day, so i completely put it back in, custom setup mixed with factory stuff. I even run it with the windows down, thats how much i love ac.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

ok by custom, i mean i put in a sanden 508 style compressor, made custom mounts that hang the compressor nice and low on the pass side, and made custom lines to run to and from the compressor.

The rest is stock.

Re: Air Conditioning still work??

high is on a separate circuit, bypassing the resistor, either that circuit is shorted out possibly or maybe your blower motor is drawing too many amps. Those are a few ideas.

'88 2.8 193k with same problem: It blows out of the defrost vents but, NOT the driver/passenger vents. Aside from that, takes a while to get cold, but will blow pretty cold. However, I also tend to favor the windows: Free a/c, slightly more power, and better gas mileage.
