94 4.3 Cold Shift Shutdown...HELP!

I have a 94 Bravada with the 460 trans and on cold starts in the morning when shifting from P to D the truck acts like it is going to stall but comes back however this morning it died while shifting but started right back up. what could be making this happen?

yeah i let it sit for a good few minutes before i go to shift into gear.
