1st Gen S10 Bug Out Vehicle Pics

Did a quick search couldn't find it. Direct me if so.

If not, I'm planning my bugout vehicle for a clean old 93 blazer I have, looking for good ideas for practical utility purposes: bumpers, guards, suspension, etc.

All on a practical budget.

I'd love to see some pics.

I'll get one up for this if I get a response.

Re: 1st Gen S10 Bug Out Vehicle Pics

A couple of before/current pics.

This has been my wifes rig for quite a while, now she wants a newer Subaru.

I put a rebuilt 4.3 from S&S in this about 3 years ago, has about 17000 miles on the rebuild. It is the balance shaft motor and it runs very strong, no plans for more hp.

Need to bullet proof (not literally) the suspension and drive train first.

What would you do first. Can we make a list?

Budget will be about 2500 total, about $200 a month.

Month 1: ?

Looks good. I'd go with a torsion bar crank and shackle lift. IMO Cheap lift......

How about sell it to someone who would give it a good home and buy a 4WD toyota. There is no need to destroy a perfectly good truck like that. I mean, you cant go out and buy a new one anymore...

That doesn't make any sense. What makes a 4wd toyota a better vehical to wreck than an S10 blazer?

we like blazers around these parts. However toyota 4x's are easy to find, cheap, and are IMO a better choice to beat on then a big ass heavy 4wd 4 door blazer

Meh. They are equal here. In fact, blazer are much easier to find IMO. I would take an SUV any day for a BOV over a truck. You can live in a blazer if you like, cary people in the cold, and not have them in the bed. It just works out better.

Re: 1st Gen S10 Bug Out Vehicle Pics

If you can find some patrol car seperator screen from a law enforcement agency thats liquidating their stuff they have a shitload of this screen laying around for converting patrol cars over. They've been using polycarbonate for years now, they may even give it to you. I've got stacks of this stuff laying around. You could paint some of that shit black to go over your back glass, and rear side windows. Fab up some brackets and use pins to make it removable in a hurry, could even have a hinged piece for the windsheild that could be folded down or up from the roof.

More or less a brush guard for your glass, but would also keep rocks, sticks, and zombies corpses from entering your passenger compartment.

Gut the interior and sell it to someone needing some decent parts. Suspension lift, runner bumpers and a winch front and back. I'd go to the older three piece front end and screen off the grill.

I think its safe to say that I've seen the Road Warrior too many times.

It probably should get a diesel swap as well, in case of an EMP blast.

My feelings exactly. I've had S10's long enough to know they are workable and in a shtf scenario, every junkyard, at least here, has parts. The parts stores will be tough to get parts from. I can bailing wire damn near everything and interchange if needed.

hmmm....I do want to lower the sheen of the paint so it does not reflect. I have honestly considered coating the entire truck below the body line with the spray on bed liner.......maybe the whole damn truck.....I'd like it to be night camo. If I have my family and am holed up somewhere in a gulch, I don't want a flashlight finding us in the dark easy. How do you keep glass from reflecting but still work?

Re: 1st Gen S10 Bug Out Vehicle Pics

Why dont u sell the clean unmolested possibly from pictures non rusted blazer and buy one that is ragged to hell already so u can do your spray on bedliner and whatever else without destroying a clean truck. Not to mention youll have plenty of cash left over to spend on all your bedliner coating and whatever else u plan to do.

Well, lets see.... rip off the chrome wheel well mouldings, rip off the chrome impact strips on the bumper covers front and rear, rip off the body side moulding all the way around, paint the grill black, buy a set of metal wheels and spray them black(and give me yours), find headlight covers and install them,
And ruin such a beautiful first gen in almost perfect shape.

Re: 1st Gen S10 Bug Out Vehicle Pics

I really appreciate the once in a blue moon first gen S10 Blazers that are true survivors, as if it was still 1994 just like the one pictured here. Sure if someone wants to go buy a Blazer by choice of vehicle preference you wont have a hard time finding one, but you will have a very hard time finding a "New" one, like yours.

I agree with you. I would love to have a Blazer in that condition. I'd pamper the shit out of it.
