When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
I talked to an owner of a 2000 ZR2 ext cab today and he said his ZR2 had no ZR2 RPO. It's not a clone as I checked the suspension so it's a legit model. He said the only difference between his truck and a "real" ZR2 was the sticker on the side of the truck. I didn't check the RPO sticker in the glovebox but he said he bought it brand new so he should know. (He sounded like he was fairly familiar with the S10s and ZR2s.) He also said he pays a lot less for insurance as it's not listed as a ZR2.
Anyone else come across this before? Kind of interesting. |

Even if he took the sticker off, that wouldn't make insurance go down...

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
my blazer zr2 model doesnt have a sticker on the side of it, but it is still a zr2 model.
a few things to make it a legit zr2 model. inside the glove box, on the rpo codes, it needs to state ZR2. the zr2 has boxed a arms. should have a boxed frame. the suspension mounting points are lower than that of a regular s10/blazer to give it the raised ride height. it also has a 3.9" wider track width. obviously the raised arch fenders, wheel flares, the inner fenders on the front also have zr2 stamped on them. but mainly, if it is a true zr2, it will have the zr2 rpo code in the glove box. i dont remember if my truck came back as a zr2 or 4x4 in the vin when i ran it through carfax when i purchased it. but i know its a legit. could it be that he bought a wrecked zr2 and swapped the frame w/ his non zr2 and pictures of said vehicle? |

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
I don't know the guy. Just happened to meet him outside the vets office this morning. It's a legit ZR2. I checked the suspension. He said he bought it new so I'm pretty sure he didn't swap frames. He didn't remove the sticker. It just didn't come with one. And he seemed pretty sure it didn't have the ZR2 RPO. (I asked him and he seemed familiar with both the location of the RPO sticker and the ZR2 code.) I asked if it had the Z85 suspension RPO and he said he thought it did but wasn't sure.
Assuming the frame wasn't swapped (as I'm sure it wasn't), I guarantee it was a ZR2. I could clearly see the front mount for the rear springs. Instead of being flat like my non-ZR2 Blazer, it had a drop of a couple inches or so. Nothing welded on but looks just like every ZR2 I've ever seen. Since I just met him, I wasn't about to ask for the VIN or to see the RPO sticker for verification. ![]() |

no zr2 rpo...then its not a zr2

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
Stickers were sometimes let up to the dealers choice to put on or not.
Also the truck Z's are the ones with the dead give away front rear spring perch, suvs dont have it... |

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
This truck definitely had the lower front rear spring perch. That was the first thing I noticed when I was looking to see if it was real. If the SUVs don't have it, how do the ZR2 Blazers get the extra lift in the rear?

No RPO in the glovebox? Then no ZR2.

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
The stickers were from what I understand could be ordered left off. My 00 did not come factory with the stickers. The dealer opted not to have them put on when they ordered it. But everything is number matching to a tee. RPO codes are in the glove box the tire chart for the 31's are in the door.

Its a simple answer . An SR2 is not an SR2 as soon as you put it on a trailer.

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
You can also eyeball the tires. The rears hide under the bed. The front tires stand out wider. You can use wheel spacers to fix this. but most folks dont bother.

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
I have yet to see a ZR2 that has a 5 spd have a ZR2 sticker. I have always assumed the ones without a sticker were the base model and the ones with the ZR2 sticker were fully loaded.

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
I had a 97 s10 zr2 w/ a 5sp. And yes it was a true zr2, had the code in the glove box...I've never seen another one though, I think it was a special order?

Re: When is a ZR2 NOT a ZR2?
my GMZ has no Zr2 RPO codes and the wrong sticker on the door for the tire size and it is a 1998 Jimmy with no stickers .The way I know this is that is wider and taller than a regular 4x4 blazer, the front fenders are stamped ZR2,and my jack is stamped ZR2 and it has billstien shock under it
