Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

^^ they are indeed, IM not too happy about the fronts, Thinking of picking up some actual Z fenders and going about it that way, and the rears are from a BlaZeR2 andthe fit almost like a glove, just some minor trimming by the body line.

Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

Although, what would you get from a Z that this truck doesn't have?

Besides the off-road frame

I've been thinking about what problems I'd hit by trying to box in the rear of my frame. Maybe just cap the very end.

8.5" and a G80 lol. both of which might be taken care of this summer along with some rear disks.

Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

I guess my G80 works great, but if I had the cash I'd like to trade it out for a locker.

rear disc is a breeze to work on, but my braking power still seems pretty crummy. :/

Maybe some light weight cardboard will help.

Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

That's awesome Beandip, I can see from your pictures you cut the straight edges from the original trace. I wasn't sure if I should do that, or square it up by adding to it, but I ended up cutting out of the front, then adding the corners to the rest- these dimensions should work. I still need to put the cardboard up to the truck to make sure.

I still need to do the bottom, 2'' longer on a 45 degree angle. I think a small winch fairlead will fit under the plate.

I was going for a small off-road bumper and a winch mount. I'm using 1/8th steel so my recovery points will be 2'' receivers in the frame rails and not welded to the bumper.

I want to add a grille guard too, these are only $50.

Still waiting on my state tax return for the plasma cutter, should be any day. I want to try a rear bumper too, closer to the body with some steps.

I used that 1/2" X 1/8" flat stock to use as a guideline. I used the template to trace, but actually cut with the straight edge.

What plasma are you looking at?

Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

All the plasma cutters in my price range have a decent amount of bad reviews, so I picked the one with the best return policy and warranty.

The Eastwood Versa-Cut 40 amp = $579

I'm still scanning CL and ebay for used name brand cutters, the best I've seen so far is a thermal dynamics Drag-gun for $600. It only works on 110v and maximum cutting is 3/16th it has a built in air compressor, but I have a sufficient compressor to run a plasma cutter.

If nothing comes up for used name brand I'm going to go for the Eastwood, and I'm going to buy the metal while it's in the mail so I can give it a full work out in the first few days to make sure I didn't get a dud unit.

TO just get it on and functional, not that hard. to make it lok good and braceit properly, as well as rework the mounts, a PITA. I personally will not do it again, its nice and looks ok, but its a PITA to use my truck as a truck.

Honestly, I would recommend using a Receiver style carrier, if you want it on the rear, or making a bumper with a carrier on that. the sheet metal isn't near strong enough for a tire carrier, without alot of bracing. It WILL ruin your bedside, unless you make an internal brace, and that's easier said than done.

but all in all it took me about 2 hrs to mark it and drill the holes,

The hardest part was holding the nuts to the outer tailgate skin, from behind.

Re: Post pics of ZR2 S-10 or Blazer

Installed my new grill and lights today. after one of the last snow/ice storms i had a sheet of ice come off a jeep and smoke the front of the truck.

from the outside it does not look bad, however it broke all the clips on the pass side and broke the plastic where the marker light pops in. so the light was loose.

marker lights with factory fogs are EXPENSIVE! so i just got a cheapy set of aftermarket clears and im going to use the fog light wiring to control some aftermarket lights when/if i add them.

before

after

Thanks. It really sits a lot wider with those tires on it, they stick out about 1" further than before. As you can imagine the fling a lot of mud in just about every direction lol
