Re: Newbie
Yea beware of those hideous headlight covers and steering wheel. HAHA No I'm just kidding. Watch out for fuel pumps, wheel bearings, and lower intake manifold gaskets. Other than that the 4wd actuator things are kind of weak.

Re: Newbie
Also if it's the fuel spider, they go out too sometimes. How many miles does that translate into? Just curious because these motors will last forever if you take care of them.

Re: Newbie
Thanks...............
Does the VIN confirm it is a ZR2? About 97000 miles The dear has to do some work on it yet, new brakes, manifold, clutch(I am assuming in the transfer case), 4 Low would not engage. Headlight covers are already gone........................ |

Check out the thread Do I have a ZR2 or something like that, it's a sticky, and it will tell you numerous ways to tell if it is a z or not.

Re: Newbie
Check the HVAC system as well. Sometimes the transfer case switch goes out and can ruin your A/C actuators. You may not use your A/C, but it will also affect how your vents blow.

More stuff from a newbie............
Thanks everyone..............
Just a few questions if you don't mind.............. I still don't have the truck, dealer still has some things to do to it so I can't verify if it is a ZR2, but I will. Are the hubs locked all the time? I'm use to manual hubs (83 and 85 Toyota SR5) as well as a manual transfer. How does the transfer mess the A/C???????????? Yes it blows cold an I will use it up here in the frozen tundra.............once my igloo melts Also does any one have a stock 94 steering wheel, radio, and antenna for sale |

Re: Newbie
the front differential has a cable running to it that is pulled by a vaccume actuator that is linked with your vaccume system. your AC uses the vaccume system to switch the vets from floor to face, etc...
the vaccume lines go in the T-case as well and it uses it as well. the cable in the differential when pulled enagaes the front diff. so when you push the button the front diff is engaged and the T-case is as well. |

Re: Newbie
To expand on what Donald said, the transfer case switch can allow fluid to pass through the vaccum lines sometimes and it will end up in the 4wd actuator and in the A/C vac lines. either place, it will eat the actuators. If that happens, unless you engine is producing full vaccum, like at idle, it will allow outside air to pass through the vents. That means no matter how hot the heater is, you wont feel anything but the outdoor temperature unless you let off the throttle. Check behind the glove box and see if there is any trans fluid in any of the vaccum line back there. If so, check the vents to make sure that it actually changes when you move the vent controls. Mine does that but in East Texas, I can handle it because the temps are fairly mild in winter (rarely below 30F), but if it stays below freezing you may want to have that checked. As far as I know its got nothing to do with engine performance, just personal comfort.
As far as the hubs locking, they will only lock when the the transfer case is engaged and the vaccum is directed to the front diff actuator. Its all routed through the T-case so all you have to do is push the button. I know how you feel coming from the Yota, because I had a 95 Tacoma before my S10. The ADD of the S10 makes it more convinient going through the tight turns on my deer lease because the front end unlocks with the push of a button. |
