Intake manifold...leak or no leak?

I have an '00 ZR2 4.3L. Pretty stock. I have heard that the intake gasket is subject to failure. Is this true?

Is there a way to check? I have a vacuum guage.

I am trying to diagnose what I am coming to believe is "poor injector design syndrom" or PIDS.

If you have suffered from stinky PIDS I'd love to see pics of the swap to the (is it?) newer injector design. Sorry I think I messed up the thread already.

You don't need a vaccum gauge...your peeprs will tell right away if there is a coolant leak. As for the spider...if it ain't broke.....

Re: Intake manifold...leak or no leak?

I do see a rust mark that always looks fresh down in near the stat, but I'm sure its not the stat.

To be clear the fault in the intake is coolant related? Not air flow related?

if your not losing coolant, and theres no coolant down the side of your block then your gasket is fine

Re: Intake manifold...leak or no leak?

I you think the stat housing is leaking, just get some RTV sealant and a new stat. remove the old stat and put the new one in, then put a thin bead of sealant on the housing (being careful not to get it too close to the inside of the housing) and cinch it all back down. Wait a couple hours before you drive to let the sealant set.

That would be your Dex-Cool. Get a couiple bottles of Prestone Super Cleaner and follow the directions. Pick up a Prestone Flush & Fill Kit also. When you are done with that, refill with Prestone Coolant and life will be good. While you are at it, go by the dealer and get a new radiator cap...the one wit the yellow writing on top.
