How fast in 4wd?

I dont know if this is the right spot to post this or not, but i was wondering does anybody know how fast the front suspention (sp?) can go befor it starts to fail? Caus around here i take the truck up on strip jobs and loggin roads and the like and we can hit 60mph or better. Iv been tryin to keep it under that though.

Re: How fast in 4wd?

I know in my manual it says to stay below 55MPH in 4LO, that might be for 4HI as well.

Re: How fast in 4wd?

my freind used to have '02 automatic and he had to have his in 4wd all the time, and we had it 70 mph out on interstates. But that was only a time or 2, it dint hurt it as far as i can tell. But idk if the suspenstion could take that every day onstock parts.

Re: How fast in 4wd?

well it's not the suspension that will go, it will be the transfercase or some part of the 4WD components spinning too fast or creating too much speed difference between the tires at speed

Re: How fast in 4wd?

Thats what i ment, idk what i was thinking with suspenstion... I soulda aid drive train. I just talked to my friend and he said that he thought that the transfer case and front drive shaft ect. were suposed to be uptill about 75-80. Im not so sure though.

Re: How fast in 4wd?

The only problem would be bind up on high traction surfaces. Should be fine on dirt.

Re: How fast in 4wd?

Should be ok as long as it's not a high traction surface like pavement. In part time 4x4 trucks like these the front diff is geared very slightly higher than the rear to increase traction and the front is locked together in 4x4, so the wheels need to be able to slip a little.
