is your A/C on? if your compressor is running it will cause a slight surge feeling when it kicks on an off. Its very slight though. If yours is more than slight then it probably something else.

The transmission would down-shift going up hill.

mine downshifts all the time... i hear it's the 3.73 gearing. it is always trying to find the right place. when your cruise control is on it downshifts and stays like that for a long time most of the time before finally going to a lower RPM. i hear you can re-gear to 4.10 and it will make it much better.

Check you TPS and your MAF. Alot of times they can malfunction and not throw a SES light so you dont know its not working right. If either of those sensors is not opperating properly, then it will affect transmission shifting.

I may be way off, but thats what Ide check first given the symptoms.

donaldps10 is right, its probably just hunting for the right gear. If it really annoys you, just shift into 3rd and call it a day. OD is really just made for cruising, not working. So when your truck is under a load, going up hill or passing its going to down-shift and then up-shift when it feels it should.
