Re: difference between a zr2 and regular s10

well, the ZR2 is the offroad package of the S-series, but they arent really the same animal at all.

The ZR2 sits taller, wider, and runs 31' tires stock because of the suspension and the mounting locations to the frame. Many people think they come with a lift from the factory, but its actually a whloe different suspension setup. Basically everything on the front end is different. The rear axel is the same as the 1/2 ton trucks. Skid plates underneath, rear locking diff, lower gearing, more stable on and off road. Ide say get the ZR2 if youre gonna get one, just be aware that almost nothing from a regular S10 will fit on it.

Just go look at the "Do I have a ZR2" thread or basically any zr2 thread and it will show you exactly what's different.

Basically the "Do I have a ZR2" section tells you how to identify the ZR2 but it doesnt cover all the advantages of the ZR2.

If you want to run 33's, a ZR2 will clear them with with a 5" BDS or a 6" SL, whereas the regular S10 you will need a 2" BL in addition to either the 5" OR 6" to clear a 33" tire.

Thats a pretty good article, even if its kinda Blazer biased. The only thing I saw it left out was the rear spring perch on the trucks but thats covered in the "Do I have a ZR2" section.

Yea, I noticed that as well, but it covers everything else, so regular people wanting to know what a zr2 will learn a lot.

Maybe its dead. It happens more than you think. I thought mine was dead but I put it on a dirt road and floored it. It left 2 really nice skids, where if it was dead it would only leave one.

But, if its a true ZR2, it has one. They came from the factory with an Eaton locker, I think.

Hmmm. Mine might be the same way, but I try not to spin them on pavement because rubber is expensive.

I believe the zr2's still have the G80 governor, which is more of a posi unit. And they disengage over a certain speed and don't always lock up.
