Re: Usmc

Welcome to the military...You'll have fun in the Marines...Did you get any kind of bonus?? I ask because from what I understand there are stopping all bonuses and incentives...Like the other day a memo was put out saying that if anyone wanted to re-up ( Army ) that they can only do so for 2yrs with no incentives and bonuses...Apparently every branch is getting overstocked because of the economy and having to cut back / be more selective on who they let come in...Anyways congrats on your enlistment....

So you've been to MEPS, talked to a carrer counselor , signed papers , and held up your right hand??? If so then your contract should be complete...which means there won't be addding any Enlistment Bonuses to it...

well it was werid i up to the mepps building in albany ny, took the asvab one night then stayed at the hotel the next night, then got my physical and signed the no homo acts/background searchs, then i got a ship date but still didnt know my job. so i went back talked to my recruiter and he said pick three jobs so idid then he called me yesterday and said i got the intelligence job now just come in to talk about a few more things and finialize everything. so im not sure, ill be super pissed if i dont get one, just because my buddy got like 5k for the marines 4 months ago and hes infantry. so idk what do you think, any chance i can still snag one?

Re: Usmc

Hopefully you'll get one...I just got a email stating that the Army Referral Bonus Program will be suspended starting July 1st...I know this doesn't apply to you but goes to show that the branches are getting full...I barely got my DS slot in the Reserves for after I ETS...The ecomony is forcing 30-40 yr olds to join and everyone inbetween...

Re: Usmc

7 month wait huh? I had 9. Best advice I can give you right now.. Start working out. Check out the Marine Corps Daily 7, do some running, crunches, pullups. Just start building yourself up. Also learn your general orders, rank structure, both enlisted and officer, Marine Corps and Navy. Start referring to yourself as Recruit (and whatever your last name is) when around Marines or other poolees.

Re: Usmc

congrats man. make sure you talk about that bonus because 3 years ago when i joined i didnt get shit. and now guys are getting like 10 grand. the marines are getting soft. but catch it wile you can because all our bonuses are going away. before last month my bonus to reenlist was 53k and now its only 20k. but hey man congrats and GL at bootcamp.. not that you will need it. just remember man just because you get a constant paycheck dosent mean you have all the cash in the world and stay away from 90% of the places in jacksonville NC when you get there

Well your not technically "in" the Military until after basic/boot....You're trying out for it...You can walk out and just get written off as a failure to train because you're not in the Military yet..

You're lucky. We had a guy in BT/AIT who had heart arrythmias who nearly died because he didn't tell the MEPS people and made it into Infantry BT/AIT.

Wellllllllllllllllllllll.......................... .........that made matters worse because now he's at risk and we had to do "Suicide Watch" 24/7 for a week straight on him while they did psych evals on him, which made it take even longer to out-process him.
Had to wear a road-guard vest 24/7 to signify "SW" and everything....of course he wasn't going to harm himself and he even apologized to me and my battle buddy one night in the wee hours of the morning for causing us to have to put up a SW for him.

Re: Usmc

If you don't have a bonus now, don't count on one. Don't worry about one, if you worry about the money you're in the wrong job, the pay isn't great. You're already signed up and pumped, they're going to give that bonus to somebody to swing them over the line or sign a longer contract (such as a winger).
And stay away from any car dealership/computer salesman/anything with a loan that is within 15 miles of base. All they do is rip you off.
Boot camp: keep your head on your shoulders and don't take anything personal and you'll make it. It might hurt but you'll make it.

That's all this lance criminal has to say.

I got a bonus with my mos, but honestly I would have taken one less year than 5 years and a 5K bonus that turned into 3500. Good luck in boot camp then school. Just hope you dont get orders to Okinawa like i did.

Re: Usmc

yeah, my school was almost a year long too. i was in 29 from aug 06-jun07. i take it back about okinawa, its not that bad, but i have been here since july 07 and just ready to go back to the states. trucks are really expensive here, but there are a few bagged and bodied ones. if you like drifting, your in luck, its kinda of addicting, just dont buy a skyline like every other amereican here.
