This should be helpful for those who want to know about the SS.
Twiggs can you sticky this The History of the S10 SS The 2nd generation S10 was introduced in 1994. Along with that came the all new Chevy SS S10(RPO – B4U). About 2756 (est.) SS's were made a year. They were each equipped with the 4.3L V6 producing 180 hp and on up to 195 hp Stock!,and were all 4L60 automatic transmissions. The SS was introduced with only three colors: Onyx Black Summit White Apple Red. In 1994 and 1995, the SS came with 15" cast aluminum wheels, and chrome center caps and red bowties. SS badging and fog lamps were standard equipment as well. The rear-end was a 3.42 limited slip gear. In 1996 they received the upgraded ZQ8 suspension which now lowered the truck about 1.5 inches, had Bilstein shocks, fatter front and rear sway bars, in rear you had a anti hop shock that went from the axle to the frame, and a faster turning steering box. 1998 was the last year of the SS model, and also the first year the new front end was introduced. All SS S10 94-98 were all regular cab and step-side bed was available from 96-98. Production #’s 1994 - 5,670 1995 - 1,619 1996 - 1,240 1997 - 1,459 1998 - 1,324 Necessary RPO Codes B4U – SS Trim Package<---has to have this to be a real/true SS!!! L35 – High Output 4.3L Vortec V6 M30- 4L60E Transmission G80 – Locking Rear Differential GU6 – 3:42 Gear Ratio YC3 – LS Trim ZQ8 – Sport Suspension (thanks to Ricesmoker95ss for this info) If im missing something let me know ![]() Last edited by orangesonoma : 06-16-2007 at 10:55 PM. |

Re: Re: Re: The History of the SS
What are ZQ8's? You wouldn't happen to have a picture of them? I have a plain Jane 2003 and want to make a few modifications and I've seen on some members SS's five spoke wheels that looks a lot like ones that were on Camaros and I would like to find a set of these in the 16 or 17 inch version if they are available. I know I have a lot to learn here and I'm looking forward to many modifications down the road when the money becomes looser but the right now I would feel happy with the wheels I've mentioned above. Zq8's are five spoke polished aluminum rims with a red bowtie in the center cap. I have a set for sale, for 450 with tires if your interested. Since I just switched to fittipaldi tubolores. Check out my SS album at http://community.webshots.com/user/lobodomingo7.html . To see pics of them.

seems like only std cabs got the shock up until 2000, then nobody got them, then they were started to be put back on in later years...i really don't think there was a definate pattern as to what trucks got it... |

every now and then on the Lightning forums............to answer your question...No, it doesn't make your truck an SS. That is like saying, if I have a ext. cab L35 V6 Automatic ZQ8 with a .342 LSD......and a leather wrapped steering wheel does that make it a SS because........they never made ext. cab's.........but it has the same powertrain........no. No matter if you take everything from an SS and put it into a reg cab of the correct years. It all boils down to the almighty VIN. This is no flame so don't get me wrong.... I just think that this should be clarified. Just like if you have a Noma........no matter what configuration you have........it can't be a S-10 SS..........it would be a reg cab Sonoma.......with a ZQ8, bucket seats, L35 V6, auto trans, and a .342 LSD. InSiDiOusSS.........by chance is your truck a Sonoma??? This is the only way, other than a non-factory paint job, that I can think that your codes match. There is a guy on the Lightning forum who took a "totaled" Lightning and a reg. cab Fleetside bed F-150 and installed EVERY part off of the Lightning that "makes" it a Lightning......onto his reg. cab Fleetside F-150..........is it a Lightning???? NOPE.......VIN says different and it still has a fleetside bed.........Very nice truck.....with all of the L' running gear.........not a Lightning. Anyway, Like I said before.......not meant to Flame or trash anyone's ride.............just expressing my view. Jimmy |
