Production Numbers

Hello all...just hoping someone will know the answer to this..I read in the sticky above the prod #'s for the 96 SS. Do you guys know of a way to check the numbers of a certain option group? For instance if I wanted to know how many 96 S10 SS's came with the roll-up windows and manual locks is there a way to do it. Mine is the only one I have seen and want to know how many were made.

I don't think you can look that up, I might be wrong though.

It might be a rare base model option truck, very rare. Just kidding. I don't think there is any way of figuring that out, Chevy doesnt even have a approximate number for year only.

actually the 96 does have the CPI I believe....well when I say the rearend is all I've replaced I wasn't counting minor or routine things..fuel filters PCV valves, spark plugs and wires things like that. I think if I remember correctly I did replace the rotor button too...but that was really a big deal.

Central Sequential fuel injection I believe. No doubt the CPI would of needed the injector, if not more by your mileage. I wish mine would last 220k miles, but it would probably take me 20 years to put that much mileage on mine, I got a 97 SS with 65k.

I just had the rear end in mine worked on ... it started making a bad clicking noise if I wasn't giving any gas. Turned out the seal where the drive shaft went into the diff was bad and leaked all my fluid ... plus having 119K miles didn't help much as the gears had wear on them and added to the clicking.
... $800 though? Jeez ... I had a guy, who has been doing race car posi rear ends for quite some time, to replace my u joint, the leaking seal, adjust the clutches, and refill me with gear oil for $145.
Sure beats a whole new rear end for $800 or more

I actually got a higher-up at a big Chevy dealership to try to get a hold of some of this info. Nothing's turned up so far.
