1994 ss question

Ok.. this truck is my baby, i basically spend all my money on this thing trying to make it perfect, but im still the slowest car in my group of friends, from my friends camaro ss, my other friends cobalt ss supercharged stage 3, then anothers 88 trans am, and then a mustang svt, and finally a 84 300zx turbo AE..... on that i dont want to pick up the back of the pack any longer, what should i do to it?? engine swap?? mods??

Re: 1994 ss question

1994 S10 SS has about 200 horsepower and 260 foot pounds of torque, and it's a pick up truck with a v6. The cobalt SS/SC makes 205 hp stock, and no telling how much if it's stage 3. An 88 Trans am is rated at 240hp. Camaro SS, who knows, SVT mustang, who knows, and i don't know anything about nissans. What all have you done to the motor of your truck? You can make a v6 fast, but for just as much money you can drop in a 350 and keep up.

Re: 1994 ss question

You could do a turbo, supercharger, hell, you can put their engine in your truck if you want. But remember, just because it's an SS, it's not like the Cyclone and Typhoon, it's really no different then any other S10, other then it came with the "High Output" engine as some would say. But that engine was available in the S10's that weren't SS. Most of the vehicles you want to keep up with probably have a V8, or they are forced induction, which puts them above a STOCK or slightly modified 4.3.

Re: 1994 ss question

Depends on you bank account, and how much you want to drop into it.As mentioned a 350, LTI,LS1 or supercharger(turbo) your V6.

I'm sorta going through the same delema, and really unsure what I want to do,but seriously considering a Wynjammer. I'd love to drop in an LS1, but geesssh, looks to me like a lot of time, money, and re-arranging.

Best thing is talk to the V8 S10 guys and get their idea, and opinions, that already been there and done that. They have tons of information.

Re: 1994 ss question

for one, money isnt really a issue.... i make good enough money to drop into it, i really would love a v8 but there is more work into that, that i really wanna dive into, i have a an intake on it, and also a dual flowmaster exhaust and thats it for the moment... so far ive been restoring the body and frame.... now its time for the engine... i am for sure going to do a rebuild on the engine if i keep it just to replace the vavle springs and all that jazz... i love it to death but i also dont wanna if i dont have to spend an enourmous amount of money

Re: 1994 ss question

My 94 SS was pretty quick. I had a list of things done to it in my signature but it got too big. I used to run with LT1 camaros/trans ams with no problem. Wouldn't always beat them, but keeping up with a 350 sports car isn't anything to complain about. My truck had a comp 266 AHR cam, 4.11 gears in an Eaton locker, trans go shift kit with corvette servos, hypertech chip, flat top pistons, balanced crank, lakewood traction bars, and a 3 inch drop. That should get you started.

Re: 1994 ss question

You can do this:

It is an easy and cost effective way to wake that 4.3 up.

BTW, this is my setup and I will be selling it soon. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: 1994 ss question

Bang for the buck, nothing comes even close to nitrous. Its not cheating or playing dirty, its a power adder just like anything else. Sure my buddies did not expect me to have a direct port nitrous on my truck, then again no one expected me to have a V8 in my older S-10 either...

What made me go for nitrous vs a supercharger on my SS was the fact that nitrous was cheaper (allthough my direct port setup was not cheap), and the fact that I could just leave the bottle in my room so I wont be tempted to whoop any mustangs or JDMmers on my way to and from work. I didnt have that self - control when I had my S-10 V8. I only ran my SS on the track.
