xbox 360 problem

so im playing gta 4 online today. everything is going well then all of a seddun my picture goes into a blurry rainbow like mode. so i figured maybe it was just the game i was in. i reboot my xbox, and soon as it turns on, i hear the sounds of it booting up but only get like moving starts or something in a black screen. whats going on with it. oh and no 3 red rings or nothing. no overheating either.

not e74... e74 actually comes up with an error message that says e74... its probably an internal video component going out

Re: xbox 360 problem

Same thing happened to mine last year around this time. It was under warranty, so I just took it in for an exchange. They didn't even check it, and I got a free hard drive out of the deal.

Re: xbox 360 problem

The rrod warranty is 3 years I believe. Mine did something similar to this and would repeatedely freeze. You don't need the receipt to send it to microsoft, they somehow know when you bought it. A few days later I got the rrod and the e74 error. Sent it to be repaired and it has been working flawlessly since I got it back.

no seriously it wont show any signs but itll cause the rrod

edit:: the most common cause of the rrod is the solder (or whatever they use) coming undone... all they do is open it up and resolder it... all the microwaving will do is loosen the solder

You're right about the solder coming loose, but putting it in the microwave isn't going to do anything but turn the xbox into a brick. That's the worst "advice" I've heard all year.

Stockchevy - I would call Microsoft, explain the situation, see what they're willing to do. They're pretty good about covering these things because the problem exists from the factory.

Re: xbox 360 problem

well ironically i dont know how but my picture is working for right now. a few taps on the console and its back. but we'll see for how long. howver i did get a reply back from microsoft and they said if i lose video and get no red ring then its not covered, if it gets one of the red rings then its covered for 3 years. so i hope it get a red ring so its free when it goes haha/

thank you all for ur help

Re: xbox 360 problem

Well if you want the rrod just put it in a small area like inside a space on an entertainment area and play play the shit out of it. Eventually it will overheat, or just leave it on, that may do it.

Re: xbox 360 problem

sgtm, i talked to microsoft. they said since its not rrod its not covered by warranty. it would be 150 for them to fix it for me. for that price i can buy a new system. so i guess i will have to overheat it or something.

See, if that were me, I would convince them to see things my way, and that the hardware is failing which will eventuall lead to a RROD so just cut the shit and warranty the fvcker.

Re: xbox 360 problem

Isn't the RROD under warranty for 3 years? It shouldn't matter if you're the original purchaser or not. They know about the flaw.

put tape over the fans in the back and you got yourself instant red ring. I had the e74 error and my screen did the same thing for a while before the screen went black with the e74 warning.

Sounds like a good idea. Make sure you set it next to a heater too. Make that bish overheat so they have to warranty it.

Re: xbox 360 problem

lolz....awesome. When it overheats, is it going to smoke or do anything cool? You should make a "How-To" on this because I'm sure a lot of people are going to want to know how you did it. Take pics (or don't incase MS finds them...lol)...

the how to will prob be like, put duct tape over the vents so no air escapes. i just hope no smokage happens or something worse, fire haha. but yea i will do it later tonite when i go to play gta 4.
