will this work with my dell

I need to upgrade my hard drive, I think that would help with how crappy my computer has been running. I just want to know if this hard drive will work with my dell 8200.

Click me

and will this dvd burner work with my computer CLICK HERE

I have a pentium 4 1700MHz, 1.69GHz, and 512 MB of ram. I dont know much about computers but I figure mine is outdated by now and I want to start upgrading it as I have the extra money. I had heard that dells have different motherboards or something and you couldn't upgrade them. Is this true?

Re: will this work with my dell

Any IDE drive will work including that one, the only thing that would be a factor on what drive you go with is the RPM speed of the IDE bus on the motherboard, which is just how fast it accesses information, and that's not a big deal because it doesn't interfere with compatibility.

The DVD drive will work as well

And yes, Dell motherboards are proprietary (non upgradeable unless you get the parts straight from Dell and probably not even worth it), which is why most people opt to build their own systems.

Oh hell yeah it will be. Home edition is not all that great, but I haven't had any major complaints about XP Pro Corp.

Re: will this work with my dell

okay I got my stuff and installed it the dvd-r drive works fine, but the new hard drive isnt being read. I can find it if I look into my hardware but it doesnt show up under my computer. So how can I get to work. I was told I need to format it which wouldnt be a big deal but it doesnt show up to be formatted. everythings plugged in the original hard is set on master and the new one on slave Im going to try to connect it as cabel select but I dont think that will make it work. any ideas. If I dont get it fixed tonight a guy I work with offered to take it home and hook it up to his computer and see if it works if it does he said he'd format it and give it back to see if that would make it work.

If you still have the drive, try this. Hook both drives up as cable select. Enter the BIOS using F2. Once in the BIOS, turn on the caps lock, scroll lock and num lock. Once all three lights are on, Hit Alt+E, Alt+F, and Alt+B. When you hit Alt+B, it should reboot the computer. This will set all the drives to auto-detect. Most of the time, the system will pick them up.

Re: will this work with my dell

For Win XP/2000

Go to Administrative Tools (Under Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance)

Computer Management > Disk Management

All drives currently installed should show up. Windows will tell you the status of all the drives including the partition data.

From here you can partition and format your new drive.
