Re: what is the best dvd sw
You do'nt need spectacular software to play DVDs. WMP 11 should play it. If not, VLC media player will. No need to torrent it, it's free.

Re: what is the best dvd sw
WMP won't play it natively. Just get VLC and be done with it.
For the autorun: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |

Re: what is the best dvd sw
What file format are you talking about? Is this a regular DVD, or an AVI that's burned onto a DVD?

Re: what is the best dvd sw
you need to set a default autorun video player (i.e. WMP)....do it by going to the
start menu my computer right click on the dvd drive go to properties then click the autoplay then select in the drop down menu dvd movie then select WMp (or whatever you wanna use) then apply. |

Re: what is the best dvd sw
Holy cow McAfee is using about 10 of those lol Get rid of that altogether and get Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira Antivir (both free). If you really don't want to get rid of it, that's your choice, but it's accounting for a lot of those services
Do you own an iPod? if not you can get rid of the ipodservice, mDNSResponder, ituneshelper, and applemobiledeviceservice. jusched can go do you use alcohol burning software? if not the UAservice7 can go To turn them off go to Start>Run>type "msconfig">hit enter Either under the Startup tab or Services tab uncheck the one you want turned off. (hint: on services tab click hide all microsoft services to make it easier to look through) Now don't go unchecking a whole bunch of stuff just because it's fun... you might turn off something you need w/o realizing what it is. other than that i'm concerned about the SVCHOST you didn't group with the "x5" and the DllHost. Doess the DllHost have those exact capital letters or is it all lower case? also is the SVCHOST by itself all caps like that? |

Re: what is the best dvd sw
Mcafee is crap! Kill it! Kill it! No, you don't have to have Alcohol if you're using something else to burn CD's. It shouldn't be this much trouble to play a DVD. Did you install VLC?

Re: what is the best dvd sw
xjuice got it right i fixed the dvd after the first few post now i am trying to clean out the system which is working pretty well..
tweaked the ram a little disabled a good bit of programs only put mcafee on the system to check for viruses and found 3 files that were suspicious but every thing is runny great for a almost 10year old laptop... i can pop open firefox 3 seconds after booting up i would say that real good seeing my girl cant get her internet to pop up for a solid minuet after she boots up her 07 xps tower running vista... and she hasnt installed anything but itunes and Norton360 i wish i could go through the program list and get some one to show me what i dont need to make it a tid bit faster edit: macafee is gone and im only running 27-29 processes now ![]() Last edited by 98QueS-10s : 10-29-2009 at 10:02 PM. |

Re: what is the best dvd sw
Tell her parents that I said that Norton is utter crap, and it's slowing their computers down. I'll take a picture of my Microsoft certification card if they want to see it. I've used AVG exclusively for about the last 5 years, and haven't had a single virus problem. Norton and Mcafee are both sytem resource hogs. I avoid them like the plague.
Edit- Regarding Windows 7. It's everything that's great about XP with the eye candy of Vista. I've had it since the release candidate. If you're using Vista right now, I would highly recommend upgrading to 7. Last edited by SgtM : 10-30-2009 at 08:54 PM. |
