Lost all my favorites and bookmarks

So today I went to log onto the internet and it kept saying page cannot be displayed. Apparently there was an outage as no other computer in the house had internet access. Anyway I restarted my computer twice thinking it was the problem because it had acted like that before, and it did nothing so I left the computer for a while.
Well after the internet was back up, I log on and my homepage is gone, all my bookmarks are gone, and all the favorite websites in my toolbar are gone. What could have caused this and is there a way to recover the bookmarks and stuff?

yesterday i got booted from firefox,tried restarting and kept getting the page cannot be displayed...but meanwhile i still had torrents clicking away...tried i.e. and had no problem...not long after firefox came back.

i was also getting a bunch of messages saying updates were available after i kept installing the updates prior to my issue,but i lost no information.

i think firefox was having problems...but i don't know what browser you were using.

Yea it's firefox. I think I restarted the computer without closing firefox. Im reading that that could be the cause of my problem.

I figured it out. Firefox saves the last updated of your bookmarks and I was able to find them and import them back into the bokkamrks.

Firefox is working the bugs out of 3.6 so that might of had
something to do with the messes. I've been running 3.6 b2
for a week or so now and it's been ok. Still needs some tweaking.

Firefox did the same crap to me and not saving any of my many many many passwords so I switched to opera...much better, safer and fast imho.
