calling all online gamers..:-/ (stuck with nat3)
so, long story short, i'm ****in stuck with NAT3, on my ps3, i just picked up yesterday. i've static IP'd it, DMZ'ed that static IP, thru both my modem software, along with my router software. i've done the port forwarding on both the modem and router, updated all the firmware i could, updated the ps3 firmware, attempted to bridge the modem...all to no avail.
modem is a siemens speedstream 4200, with service thru windstream. the router is a Belkin F6D4230-4. i know, not the greatest equipment, modem was supplied thru my ISP, and i had originally just picked up the belkin last week, to improve my range, so i could pull wifi out in the shop in the backyard. i've tried wireless, wired, racked my brain the past 2 days, looked thru so many threads on the issue, and nothing. so if anyone has any insight they can provide, i'm all ears, er....eyes. both the modem and router, are all set back to factory specs for now, other than the network ssid being changed, from the default one, and the network being secured. i played online last night, with mlb 09 the show, and it actually played decently, other than some lag, it's mainly demo downloads and such, thru PSN, that are ungodly slow, taking several hours to download a single demo. Re: calling all online gamers..:-/ (stuck with nat3)
and i figured it out, there are 2 different ways of bridging the 2 different generations, or whatever, of the 4200 modems...last night, i was doing the other way..lol.

look for a setting "upnp" in router and make sure its "on" put your xbox ip address in a dmz (puts it outside your router "firewall") check you mtu settings, if its default its too high for xbl |

MTU is maximum transmit unit. I don't understand all of this port forwarding and dmzing. It's not necessary. Every xbox or playstation I've ever used never needed any config changes in the router.

Re: calling all online gamers..:-/ (stuck with nat3)
yea, i don't realize why it's always suggested, i mean...i tried it with mine, but never yielded any results, even with the firewall itself down, which i probably had so much, going on, firewall down, trying to forward ports still, the computer didn't know what the hell was going on. i'd google how to bridge your router, and then just try to set your xbox on a static IP, for instance, my ps3 is set with an ip of 192.168.2.254, whereas all the rest of my network is on dhcp, with using up 192.168.2.2-2.4 or so. although i run into the occasional ip conflict amongst them, i just renew my leases, and it fixes that up right away.

Re: calling all online gamers..:-/ (stuck with nat3)
Every xbox I have ever configured always had problems with port forwarding or MTU. Jason, putting your xbox in a dmz and taking down your firewall are essentially the same thing. What exactly do you mean by "bridge your router", is your console hooked directly to an interface in the router/switch, or do you have it running from a computer with 2 NICS? |

Re: calling all online gamers..:-/ (stuck with nat3)
DMZ is setting in router its a demiliterized zone, basically whatever IP you put in it is essentially virtually outside your firework. Think of MTU as the size of each packet (data only) that you can transmit, so if MTU is 1500 and you have 3000 bytes its broken into 2 packets.... if MTU 1000 its broken into 3 |
