zq8 hop shock

looking for the gm part number for teh hop shock mounts

also the gabriel part number so i can get a shock

i assume the part number for the bracket will be for the one on the frame, but what do i go about doing for the one on the rear axel if i dont have it? can i buy that too or am i gonna have to fab something up?

i have a 03 xtreme and it has a bracket on the axle but no dampener is there a reason why mine didnt come from the factory that way has real bad wheel hop

i just got the one off my friends 02 4.3 5 speed....i need the 4 bolts for the frame bracket and the long stud/bolt for the bracket on the axle...im hoping its all findable in a trip to autozone and lowes

its common for the bracket to be on the rear end of v6 zq8 trucks 2002-up but not have the shock.. unless its got a 5spd and v6 then it had them.. most all the 96--2001 zq8 v6 trucks had the shock even with out being posi...you won't see the bracket or the shock on the 2.2 trucks unless some one added it .. . i have a frame bracket with the 4 bolts $35 shipped if anyone wants it

Do you have the shock?
I need one and the bolts. There is a bracket on the axel, but the shock is gone...

i don't have anything but the frame brackets and the 4 bolts to hold it to the frame ,, if i had the whole thing thats how i sell them when i get em ... this came from a truck and the shock was gone

I have 2001 ZQ8 4.3 V6 with posi and the differental housing bracket but no hop shock or frame bracket.

i paid $7 total for my hopshock setup.....free shock setup, 4 7/16" 1" long bolts w/ nuts (grade 5) 1 1/2" 3 1/2" long bolt w/ nut $6.48 @ lowes

I think you have to have the manual tranny not an auto

From what I have seen it appears to come on random trucks(the whole setup I mean) I have seen them come on some 4.3L autos and some 5 speeds. Sometimes they are Xtremes and sometimes they are ZQ8s. Why GM didn't include them on all ZQ8 trucks I have no idea.

I have to agree, I haven't seen any rhyme or reason to GMs inconsistancy about hop shock installation.

Well my truck is NOT a zq8 and it has a factory setup. I got a Z85 4.3L Manual with a 3.08. Maybe its random but i doubt it. There has to be a matrix chart to show what has it stock and what has it as an option.

maybe its 2001-up i have had tons of 99 v6 that had it and i have a 2000 that has it now gm does lots of crazy things? one of them ending the production of the s10 and the camaro

I read a post somewhere that said that between certain years the hop shock was standard on all V6 5spd trucks and some autos. They continued to say that GM took it off the autos because the tranny had a "smoother" transfer of power where the 5speed appeared to have a harsher transfer of power and was more prone to the wheel hop.

I don't know if the post was a "valid" response but it kinda makes sense.

My truck has all the necessary rpo codes to be a genuine ZQ8 so it should have been equipped with the hop shock set-up, but wasn't...you have to admit...GM does make some screwball decisions...

I have the same combo, z85 towing package, hop shock and a v6 5spd. i love not have a hopping rear end

my 98 sonoma zq8 had it (4.3 auto) but my 01 chevy zq8 doesnt (also 4.3 auto). they stop all the hopping though. I wore the tires off that sonoma and it never hopped once. My s10 will hop regardless.

Yeah, the front bolt is loose and it's ovaled out the mount. Clunks like hell. I'll have to see if I can get it apart and weld up then round out the hole.

does anyone know if any kind of shock (correct length that is) will work? I have a 2001 zq8 auto ext with nothing but the axle bracket. Was wondering if I can just throw something on there and will it make a difference?

no, dont use a shock. at least dont use one with any preload on it. (extends on its own)
best bet is to find a steering damper or something like that.

Click for a large view: Yeah, the front bolt is loose and it's ovaled out the mount. Clunks like hell. I'll have to see if I can get it apart and weld up then round out the hole.
