suspension tuneup?

I'm looking to do an all-around suspension tuneup before christmas, as I will have to drive back home (1000) miles and back to school again and it is starting to ride like crap. It is a 97 jimmy 4x4 and above 65 it vibrates really bad. Also, there is some clicking and popping coming from underneath the driver and pass side whenever I hit a bump. Last time I changed my brake pads up front I noticed some black rubber thing (bushing?) that was cracked and falling apart, what is this so I can replace it?

I have experience in engines, transmissions, and other general work, but I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about suspension. I've never even replaced a shock before so be nice .

thanks for the help!

Re: suspension tuneup?

let me rephrase the question. If you had 1000 to spend on suspension parts what would you buy?
