strange vibrations...

well ive had my truck lowered for a while, and i just never noticed it before until i drove my mom's honda civic around... my truck has serious vibrations when i drive.

i thought it might be the tires stiff in the morning, but now i think its more serious. whenever i drive straight, my steering wheel shakes. whenever i brake, the entire truck shakes, like an up and down feeling, kind of like a hump in the tires! its getting pretty serious, and i had it aligned recently, but it seemed to just make it worse.

SH-60B can only hope to improve
Re: strange vibrations...

I would look for a wheel balance or bent, then look at the driveline angle. Can you rotate the wheels from back to front? If you do that and the steering wheel stops shaking when you drive straight, then one or both of those wheels are out of balance.

Re: strange vibrations...

Could be an out of round tire. Just jack it up and spin it. Place a stationary object as near the tread as posible and watch for a variance when it spins. Under braking an out of round tire will tind to hop a little. But could be a lot of things. Check your suspension and steering joints.

Re: strange vibrations...

well those can be cancelled out. i just got new tires 2 weeks ago, and they balanced them. these vibrations have been goin on forever, i just thought it was normal really... but its worse now that i have smaller tires. so it could be something more serious? also when i brake sometimes it shakes, and the brake like... lets go i guess. its scarry if i had to brake hard. i really need to figure this out

Re: strange vibrations...

Whens the last time you changed rotors? It's sounding more and more like a bad out of balance rotor.

Re: strange vibrations...

Re: strange vibrations...

If it's bad enough, you could get a shake without applying the brakes. Just a possiblity. You didn't say when the last time you changed or turned your rotors.

Re: strange vibrations...

I had a similiar problem, except mine would only vibrate when I was moving not braking and it turned out to be a u-joint that was going bad not really sure but you might want to check.
