Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Do you have a tire out of balance or something?

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

either the tires are worn or the wheel bearings are going. easy way to eliminate one of them: rotate the tires.

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Thanks guys, but i just put on a new set of tires and had them balanced so i dont think that they are out of balanced. Ill check to see if a tire is out of round but how do i fix a tire thats out of round? Also im also thinkin that the wheel bearings are going. I repacked them when i did the front brakes a year ago. Could ball joints cause my truck to shake? I havent replaced the ball joints yet.

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

If a tire is out of round, you get a free replacement. Are you sure the vibration is in the front end? I like the idea of rotating the tires to narrow it down.

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Just because they are new doesn't mean that they are round or balanced. I put a set of Goodyear GT II tires on my Blazer and the dealer could not balance them. After many tries, he made me an offer that I couldn't refuse for some Michelin LTX M/S's. Problem solved!

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Had the same problem with the Goodyear Eagle #1's. Kept swapping them out till I gave up and they gave me a set of Eagle GT's. Well, I'm still having a problem with one of them being out of round. Just gonna live with it until I get some Yokahoma's in the near future. So, yes, new tire can definately be the problem.

The Goodyears are great in the rain and on dry roads. They just ride like a dump truck!

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Hey guys,
I have narrowed the problem down to the rearend. I replace all my front end parts, had an alignment done, replaced the ujoints and rebalanced the driveshaft. It is diffenitly come from the rear since i can feel it in my butt. I also rotated the tires and it still comes from the rear so i dont think its the tires. What could it be?

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

because you feel it in the butt doesnt mean its coming from the rear.
unless you are talking about sleeping with dustin,in which case i dunno.

but bent axle maybe?

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

It would be helpful to narrow it down to the driveshaft or the wheels/tires. Have you ever felt bad U-joints on a driveshaft? It's a high frequency vibration in sync with the motor revs. Much different from a slower tire vibration. Can you tell which it feels like - driveshaft or wheels/tires?

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Well i just had both ujoints replaced and the driveshaft rebalanced so its not that. I dont think its bent axles because that would cause the vibration/shaking at all speeds. Im thinking that it might be the new tires and rims i just bought/installed, maybe they need to be balanced again and maybe road forced also? If its not that then what else could it be?
Thanks

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Fried rear axle bearings possibly? Are your drums out of round or missing one of the balance weights?

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

Is it an extended cab? The driveshaft & u-joints can be hard to align and balance. Click here for info in another thread in the S-10 section.

Re: Shimmy,shaking,and vibration

No its not an extended cab truck its a reg cab. Im going to take my truck up to the saturn dealership, my dad use to work there so i get to use their equipment, and rebalance my tires and road force them. Also im going to ask the senior tech for his help and see if he can find the little demon. Thanks
