Power steering gone bad? Shocks?

What are some signs that the power steering has gone bad? I'm hearing scraping sounds when I turn my steering wheel from side to side when driving. Also, can shocks be affecting this? How do you know if shocks are going bad? I'm new at this and will take any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Power steering gone bad? Shocks?

The steering will usually make more of a "whine" sound.

To check if the shocks are bad i usual do the bounce check. So let's say you "bounce" the front of the vehicle and it bounces up and down a couple time's then their bad. The bounce check will have little to no effect on good shocks.

Re: Power steering gone bad? Shocks?

balljoints make a screech metal sound when dry and turning the wheel

ford trucks are bad for this lots of them have bad balljoints early on in their life the 90s and 2000s ones

we have a 97 f150 with this issue badly

loud screeching form balljoints when turning the wheel always

balljoints toasted

dealer and manufacturer recognized issue

Re: Power steering gone bad? Shocks?

Your problem sounds like balljoints as stated above. But if you hear a whine while turning, check your power steering fluid.
