I assume the popping is while in motion, is it when you are going over a bump when the wheel is turned to the right or otherwise.

On my 2WD I had a problem with my front swaybar being a bit loose and beat out, but it sounds like you have a 4x4. You checked the hood hinges for loose-ness?

There are quite a few threads you can search on front end popping noises that might help you out if you haven't already.

I went into a empy parking lott cut teh wheel all the way to the left and just put my foot on the gas and drove in a circle a couple times and heard the popping
the wheel has to be cut all the way to the right not just part of the way but all of the way to the right
it use to do it the same way in revers but that stoped when i repalced the passanger front axle but it doesnt hapen when i turn the will a little it has to be all the way to the right and and have to be moving like a full circle and it sound like a popping clunking noise

I still have that exact problem after a brand new steering linkage, steering box, idler arm, and a different swaybar setup and my balljoints were perfect according my mechanic. The thing I've heard suggested in other threads is control arm bushings.

the ball joints where just replaced on the passanger side but the ones on the drivers side are older but not that bad
not sure about the tire rod ends the axle was just replaced and so was the idler arm

"not that bad" has a lot of room for wiggle. I consider any movement at all in a ball joint bad. Other people consider it not that bad till it fall out of the socket. I'm also generally of the theory that if one side was bad, the other side is shot too just because its got the same mileage on it. Pump it up with grease and see if the noise goes away. If it does, replace the ball joint. Also, how are you checking the ball joints? They cant be checked properly unless the suspension is loaded. Put a jack under the lower control arm and pick the wheel off the ground. See if there is any movement that way. If you check it with the suspension at full droop, the joints will be loaded by the spring or torsion bar and you won't be able to tell if they're shot.
