Front popping noise

Looking into buying another Blazer but this one is a 4wd w/ a 4" Trail Master lift. The owner said it had a popping noise coming from the front and he thought it was the cv axles. The shop that tore the front end down said the cv's were fine and now that the front driveshaft is out it's not popping anymore and he's just driving it like that. What do you guys think it could be?

Re: Front popping noise

You need to have someone you trust, look at the front end from all direction while you drive the truck real slow. Watch the movement of the shocks and the control arms.

Try jacking the truck up and spinning the wheels and listen for the popping sound.

Mine turned out to be the brand new CV axel. It was binding up, causing a vibration and popping sound.

Re: Front popping noise

What if the drive shaft is out and it's in 2wd would the cv(s) still pop?

Re: Front popping noise

yeah, the cv's will turn whenever the truck is moving,i would check the front driveshaft for loose u-joints since it stopped popping when you removed it. also check to see if they changed the rear end ratio but not the front.

Re: Front popping noise

ok I'm lost do you want pics of the Blazer or some of the 4wd components? Here's a pic of the Blazer. It has brand new 31's on it now(those are 33's)

I'm going to drive it tomorrow and see how I like it. If I do then I'll be picking it up.
