Did I ruin my new suspension?
hey guys, I'm brand new to s10's i just bought mine back in march. The first thing i decided i wanted to do was drop it so i ordered a 2 inch drop kit all around and then i also had 2" drop spindles installed. Now that its all settled in the front is much lower than i expected, it bottoms out in the front just going over expansion gaps on the freeway and i can hear the frame grinding the pavement when i take turns around things like roundabouts and sometimes on-ramps. Did i actually lower the front 4" when i ordered the drop spindles and the 2" coils? I thought getting the spindles would only improve ride quality/suspension geometry, did i order the wrong parts? Even if it is dropped 4" in the front i still think the frame scrapes way too much, did i ruin my suspension? thanks for the help

Re: Did I ruin my new suspension?
you lowered it 4 inches, you will have rub on the front at 4 inches, but not the rear, what size tires are you running, i suggest nothing over 235's if its lowered that much, i got 255's and 2 inch drop and a minor rub at full turn and nowhere near the fenders... but your suspesion isnt ruined, you might have to do a little bit of work to make it all fit but it should be good

Re: Did I ruin my new suspension?
Or lower the back down another 3" with springs and shocks
![]() But even at a 4/2 drop like you have, you should be no where near hitting the frame on the ground. Youre more than likely rubbing tires on the fenders. |

Re: Did I ruin my new suspension?
i have the stock tires on it now, but i think im just gona go ahead and lower the rear another 3" with springs and blocks. But i can tell that the lower control arms and the front skid plate have hit the pavement a few times ther already scratched up pretty good. Ive been trying to go slower but sometimes i just dont see the bump in the road or dont have a chance to slow down.

Re: Did I ruin my new suspension?
You went a LOT lower than 4" if you are dragging the lower control arms and frame over expansion joints... My front end is lowered 4" and I have about 4" of ground clearance. My frame rubs a tiny bit over the short, taller speedbumps. I have never rubbed the control arms though... I have spindles and springs as well.
Spindles will not improve suspension geometry... they preserve it. You shouldnt notice any real change in the feel of the truck other than a lowered CG, and therefore less body roll around turns. Solution is to install springs that you know are indeed a 2" drop. The spindles cant be off, so it must be the springs. Oh- I just thought of something else. Check that your shocks aren't leaking. If you have no damping, you could possibly get into a resonation on the road that could make your frame eat the pavement. Measure your ground clearance, either the ground to the lowest point on the frame, or from the ground to the top of your fender lips. Last edited by SickSpeedMonte : 08-11-2008 at 01:28 PM. |
