ZQ8 shocks the best?

I was wondering if ZQ8 bilstein shocks are pretty much the best you can get or some aftermarkets are better. I get all GM parts half off, but even with that i think its still about $330 all around for the bilsteins.

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

I installed Monroe reflex shocks on my S10 and they work just fine. I think Blistenes are over rated. There are a pair of 90 deg S curves near my apartment and I take them at between 55 and 60 mph all the time. I could probably go faster the 60 thru them but I need new tires before I try that. I'm a retired GM technican and also test drove cars at Milford Proving Grounds GM has one of the best drivers training programs around, Burt I'd still like to go to Bondarant just to drive a Z08 Vette that's one GM car I never got to drive.

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

I've been trying to find the rear axle damper for my S10 but the dealers don't have them because they are out of production. But I'm thinking I might have brackets welded to the left rear axle and frame and have two steel rods with hyme joints to keep the read end from torqueing forward. What you think?

every hyme joint I have ever seen is worn out way before it should be.

Try the S-10 Warehouse (find him on Ebay) might have a good used one?

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

Yes I know they wear out it's either the yhme joints or probably poly bushings. I was thinking I could adjust the load side to side to control the rear axle rotation to reduce wheel hop. BTW has anyone run the Caltrak bars on an SS with the swaybars inplace?

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

Caltracs should not get in the way. Also they just prevent axle wrap

Hey man thanks for to info I get some real axle wrap with the damper and would like a bit more control without effecting the handling in the curves.

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

When you look up that part#, and it gives you a price...Is that for one, or two shocks?

Another dumb question...What is a "hop" shock and where is it located/whats it do?

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

I need the Monroe parts numbers, my funds are tapped and I need shocks, my part stores are staffed with morons who will sell you anything. No ZQ-8 parts category in the shocks listings.

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

i installed some Gabriel over load shocks on the front of my Xtreme. $80 sold by the PAIR. they have a small coil spring rapped around the shock, the ride is alot better then what i had and great price at AutoZone. military discount too.

Re: ZQ8 shocks the best?

just asked me if it had sport suspension?
the way GM lowered the xtreme i don't think it matters, and they where the same length as the ones i took out. raised my front end just a little. the ride is alot better over most bumps in the road, not so hard.
didn't get the same type for the rear, with no weight in the back i want a better ride empty.
