Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f107/m...ce-pcm-305176/ The throttle body spacer is a joke, PLEASE don't buy one. a CAI, and a wait4meperformance are both really good options. Pullies aren't the best idea IMO, as they can cause charging problems, they made my headlights dim at idle stock and I've had alot of battery issues and charging problems with my car, and it still doesn't charge properly. Electric fan can be done for cheap with junkyard parts. Weight reduction will make your truck faster, anything you don't want in it take it out, or replace things with lighter components. Look around the member's projects section and this 4.3L section and look up people's home made air intakes and other free mods like the TB blade hack. http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f107/t...emoval-345627/ http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f107/t...nefits-354094/ here's mine: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f30/si...r-idea-352938/ Whatever you do, don't buy any of these: Throttle Body Spacer "Plug-in Tuner" or chip (Hypertech, Jet, etc.) Tornado Fuel Saver Granatelli MAF MAF Resistor to "trick" the ECU IN short, if you're asking this question, you need to do more research, so you don't make any dumb mistakes like I did buying a throttle body spacer. FYI when I took my TB spacer off my power band was cleaner and my truck ran and pulled better. So I'd so go poke around for a while before modding your truck. |

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
screw all these "mods" why dirty your wrenches, when you can add tons and tons of hp with NOS stickers, floormats, seat covers and wheel cover - good for like 50 hp a piece. much easier on the wallet.
on a serious note, read some thread and do some research, intake/exhaust and pullies are a good one. cheap too. as well as ford taurus e-fan. the pullies and efans wont add hp but theyll free up some torque. remember, horsepower sells a car, torque gets it off the line. cheers |

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
ECM tune.
Exhaust. Gears. Complete cold air. (Don't bother with the box replacement only kits). Pulleys. I'd never do e-fans myself. They only take power when they're running, which in our trucks is barely ever. Now if it were an all out track vehicle, then yeah I could see it as you'd want them running as much as possible. Throttle body spacers work, they just work against you. Why sacrifice higher RPM power for low end torque that you'll never use under full throttle. When you're shifting at 5,000RPM, do you really think adding torque at 2,000RPM at the expense of upper range power is doing you any favors? ![]() |

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
What about removing the restrictor on the bottom side of the throttle body plate?
Who has a good cold air kit? What exhaust is better while keeping the CAT? |

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
I had installed an AEM Brute Force intake on my Blazer about two years ago, during the summer. By the next summer, I took it off. In the summer, after the engine was up to temp, accelerating on the interstate felt very weak with the CAI.
I ended up cutting the bottom out of the stock airbox, now the engine has the throttle response of the CAI in the winter, but doesn't deminish in hotter temps. You can't beat the price; and as long as you don't plan on selling the stock stuff latter down the road, would be a worthwhile mod in the meantime. |

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
Don't you guys think he should decide on what bolt-ons he wants to get before he sends his PCM off? I would assume that telling Jesse at W4M all the bolt-ons and mods to his truck will play a factor on how the pcm will be tuned.

Re: what is the best cheap power adder?
the stock maf is more than enough for the 4.3 I know a few f-body lt1 guys that are pushing 425hp out the just eng and they are using factory maf. They also have 200 shot of nos.
Reprog a ecm be better if you knew what other mods you want to do. To get the best out of a cai and exhaust you need the ecu reprog. pullies are overrated imo. If they actuatly worked why didn't the factory use them from the start??????????? I tried them and 500 miles later i put the factory back on. I had charging system prob and they actuatly cost me about 2 mpg. |
