Rain, Rain.....Now X won't Start???

What's up with that? Been raining heavily round here for last two weeks. '03 X began to misfire yesterday while driving. Check Engine light also came on/still on. Would push on gas pedal but no response/acceleration - dead. Made it home in the rain driving slowly. This morning go out to drive it. Will turn over, but won't start. What up? Owner's manual says wettness may cause problems with OBDII and emissions system. Please help.

How is you k&n mounted? Is it out in the open or something? Maybe it got wet from all the rain, preventing airflow? Just a thought? Also maybe the distributor got wet. Might want to open it u[ and let it air out. Try letting the truck sit for a day to dry out and then restart. Maybe one of the sensors got wet or some wiring got wet.

Thanks, Scott. Wet wires or distributor were what I thought also. How do I open up the distributer? Where is it located? Much thanks.

Re: Rain, Rain.....Now X won't Start???

Not suire what motor you have. If 4.3l v6, the distributor is behind the throttle body, top of the engine, all the way in the back in the middle. There are 2 torx screws holding it down, I think. Small ones. Remove the top and leave it open to let the moisture evaporate. When you go to put the cap back on, be very careful not to over tighten the little screws. The distributor housing is made of plastic and cracks easily right at the screw holes. The screws have a little thread lock material on them from factory. That stuff can bind up the threads in the distributor housing. You don't want to crack that housing because you'll have to replace the entire unit and it's EXPENSIVE! lol

If your engine is the 2.2l 4 cyl, then I believe they have the spark plug energy pack. Basically that engine is a distributor-less system, no cap and rotor. The spark plug wires plug into the module and the computer tells it when to send a spark. Other than that, I don't know what else to think. It's got to be ignition related. Hope this helps.

yup def suspect the cap , i replaced probably 200 of em last year at the dealer , they were defective and would take on moisture , you may want to check the inside of yer fuse fox for moisture also , pull a few fuses and look for the ugly green

Only problem is, when the dealer says they can't recreate the problem and send you home without doing anything. Because he'll have to drive it over there to have them look at it. But if it were me, I'd try the dealer too.
