Re: Looking to buy a Chevy S10
The rear bumper has also been replaced. Xtremes, and I think any of the trucks with the ZQ8 Sport Suspension package, came with a full-width step bumper with no provision for a hitch ball. Mine had a sticker on it that read "Do not tow with this vehicle". The Xtreme package was just an appearance package that accompanied the ZQ8 Sport Suspension package. You could buy a "regular" S10 (or Sonoma) with the ZQ8 package. The Xtreme package added the ground effects, special badging, and special split-5-spoke 16"x8" wheels. The only trucks with factory rear discs were the 4x4s and Blazers, but very few Xtremes did have rear discs when they first came out in '98, probably as dealer demos. The interior was just standard LS trim- which means any options above the basic rubber floor, full plastic door panels, and bench seat ("work truck" style).
Check the RPO codes. My guess is that someone bought it as an Xtreme, then ripped the front valence off by not knowing how to drive even a mildly lowered truck, and had the rear bumper replaced with one so that they could tow with it. And, if you just "need a little pick-up around your house to move things around with", why not get a "regular" S10? They can carry more weight and have more ground clearance.
