Front wheel bearings??

I have a 2002 blazer xtreme and it would seem the front wheel bearings are shot... and from what ive gathered from the autoparts stores, you cant replace bearings, but rather, its a hub/bearing assembly that is between $250- $450 a side depending on where you shop. Really? Did GM really screw us that bad or am I missing something?

Re: Front wheel bearings??

I'm not 100% sure on this, but it appears that you do need to replace the entire unit not just the bearings...

Re: Front wheel bearings??

i can't remember what the breaks on my 04 blaze looked like....but I thought you could swap out the bearings. i know you can on the s-10's. ....and for that price it would be cheaper to swap to s-10 spindles, and break assembly. LOL

98+ blazers have dual piston calipers up front... Why would you want to downgrade the brakes?!

if/when i get another blazer I will be swapping the dual piston calipers out for the single piston ones. For one, blazer drop spindles are way more expensive than s10 spindles. And I have seen camber issues with bagged blazers that have drop spindles.

with blazer spindles, there is a lot of positive camber when lifted.

Its not the labor that bothers me, its the fact that it costs around $600 to do the damn wheel bearings

Thanks for the replies all, I thought this might be the case...

Do you work for a GM dealer or a auto parts store? I have friends at a few dealerships but I didnt think they could pull them so cheap, my friend at NAPA couldnt even get them that cheap... might be time to call in a few favors somewhere else

Re: Front wheel bearings??

well no shit.but they are the same qaulity and since the people that make em for delco and gm have been on strike, there is one hell of some backorders on them.my customers actually like them better then the delcos.only time i really sell the delcos is for warranty work.

Well Ive always said this to customers if you wanna buy a hub for cheaper and wanna come back in three months because its bad buy an aftermarket hub. If you wanna good one buy the delco. Yes you are right about the hub back orders so it could work for now but i would pay extra for the delco.

by the way you wanna check a number for me? 88967258

Re: Front wheel bearings??

Arent the delco hubs the ones going out so quick? I changed mine to some I bought at Advanced and they have been great for over a year now. They have almost outlasted, in mileage, the delco hubs that came on my Blazer.

What have you done differently than stock in this area? Do you have aftermarket wheels? Spacers? Lowered? Anything?

Re: Front wheel bearings??

ive replaced my drivers side ones twice now. First last less then 30k miles 2nd one last another 45. Pass side lasted roughly 75k miles.

They were 260 each from the stealership. Would have ordered them, but needed them at that moment. Did the work myself. Took me 45 minutes to replace each hub. Very easy to do.

2/3 over stock x, 20x8.5s with 255's. I knew they would eat up bearings at some point But my friend has the same exact truck bone stock and his crapped out with the same mileage so im not putting all the blame on the wheels and drop... as far as im concerned, it took 6 years to rack up 37k to ruin the bearings, so ill see what happens in another 6 years/ 37k
