All of your 2/3 drop info here!
Seems to me that the most popular question about the Xtreme drop is the static drop 2/3. Lets get some basics down with the Xtreme........
It has the Zq8 suspension package.....which includes steering box, sway bars, Bilstein shocks front and back, sits 1.5 inches lower than the stock S-10 using drop coils For most of the people who can't afford bags or just want to go a little lower and level it out because of this 1.5 drop, the most popular drop is the 2/3 (2 in front and 3 in back) This involves using 2 inch drop spindles and 3 inch drop blocks **note** if you have an extended cab, you use ANGLED blocks! The most popular setup and cost efficient one I have seen is through Summit racing and the part numbers go as follows a 2/3 drop belltech drop spindles bel-2100 and belltech 3" blocks bel-6200 or bel-6202 (depending on if you have a extended cab or not) This usually runs for about $170 shipped, and is pretty easy to do with the follow along instructions. **Note** Some cut the bumpstops out halfway or completly this is to prevent from bottoming out hardcore, and also you will run into the infamous Chevy lean where one side will lean about a 1/4 of an inch lower than the other side, this can simply be solved by using the spacers that are available at Summit. I hope this has helped answer some questions and if I forgot anything I will add it later! Keep on rockin kids! Last edited by zY : 12-17-2004 at 09:20 PM. |

true but that was the problem. no one would search for the info they just made a new thread, but now that we have all the info in one thread and have it stickied at the top they have a better chance of seeing it before making another thread on it. |

Would the "chevy lean" cause the truck to pull slightly to one side? or can you drive fine with it?

How hard is this to install yourself. Can you do it with a few floor jacks and jack stands or do you need a lift?

This can be done with floor jacks and jack stands. Thats how I did it and it wasn't very hard at all. make sure you get that spacer though for the drivers-side spring.

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
yup, me and my dad did it in our garage... a jack and 2 jack stands.. took about a weekend to do... front one day, and the rear the next day..
spindles took the longest for sure! they're kinda a bitch to do if its your first time blocks..... with a sawzall, no more then 1 hour and half..... AT THE MOST! |

Will dropping it affect anything. Like will I have problems down the road besides scraping the front?

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
Sorry to get in late on this thread, but i was looking for a picture of a zq8 with the 2/3 spindle/block drop done to it. I have a stock 01 sonoma extended cab with the zq8 and its not low enough for me. I want to go lower, but only to where the top of my tires are just inside of the bottom of the wheel well. Can anyone help me out with this?

With the 2/3 drop, can you use stock wheels and tires? Also anyone know any shops near louisville, ky that can help me with air bags?

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
ya for sure you can still use your stock tires on it..... you'll get some rubbing on a full lock and sometimes in reverse, but it's very minor.... i used my stock tires for over a year till i got the 18's

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
angled blocks = Extended cab
Regular flat blocks = single cab Spacers are used if you want to fix the "chevy lean" (one side of your truck sits a little lower then the other).... it's really not that big of a deal |

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
Have you guys noticed brake problems with the 2/3" drop? I've noticed that the brakes have to be pushed in a lot farther to make the brakes actually work. I've talked to a few people and they've noticed the same thing...

na, the xtremes come with billstein shocks, they will work perfectly fine.. if you ever come across a cheap set of them, it wouldn't hurt to get them... i ran the stock shocks on mine for 5 months before i got a set of belltech Nitros... |

do the other people have blazers? or the s10s?... cuz if im not mistaken they use a different set of spindles then the s10s... my brakes have always been really hard to stop with.. i always thought it was just because it was a truck... |

The other people i've talked to had blazers, i've heard that if you do a 2/3 drop with a blazer you will be fine but if you go lower than that in the rear you need to flip the brake lines.

Re: All of your 2/3 drop info here!
although this might have been answered already, here is some more info i gathered from Y2K Xtreme:
spindles and blocks do NOT i say again...DO NOT REQUIRE NEW SHOCKS!! the components do not change the shock length. doesn't matter if you have ZQ8 or not. the blocks are simply a spacer. they move the axle up toward the frame, keeping the lower shock mount in the exact same place it was when it rolled out of the GM plant. spindles, they simply move the wheel hub up two inches. that's it. i had a 2/3 drop on my X for a year, had stock shocks on it the whole time, and they are STILL good. the time when you WILL need new shocks, is if you get new coil springs or new leaf springs. those two items will change the location of the shock mounts, thus making the shock compressed/extended lengths shorter. the ZQ8 shocks ARE a drop shock, and a dam good one at that. |
