Re: typhoon for towing???
Sure why not, It's a light truck so your not going to pull a lot. Just try and find one...

^the only thing id be pulling is the motorcycle and trailers for those are small and light. i dont plan on pulling a car or a boat(nothing major) just a bike.

Spend the cash to get a real strong transmission so you don't have to worry about it?

Re: typhoon for towing???
I could have sworn the ride leveling air shocks were the reason GM put a no tow rating on them.
![]() Air shocks aside, I think you'd have to be a dumbass to blow drivetrain parts up towing 1,000 pounds. Hell, there's plenty of guys that have more weight than that in their stereos. Just don't drive it like you normally would, and be easy on it. |

Re: typhoon for towing???
Do not buy a ty to tow, it says not to in the service manuals and 14-15 years later I would not try it. You would also have to modify the roll pan.
The transmissions are meant for stress from the engine not from excess weight out back. Also the rear springs do not have a very big over load leaf. If you were to do it get a tranny cooler, make sure the tranny is sound watch the engine temps get an air bag helper setup and be careful. otherwise they are sweet trucks. |

Re: typhoon for towing???
thanks guys for the replies. so it seems that the ty is not a good option to go with for towing purposes(i was trying to get the best of both worlds, ty and a bike) but the sy can handle towing? i thought the ty and sy run the same components. if i buy a ty(which is what i want) i dont want to stress it just to pull a bike, ill just buy an suv that can handle the tow and save up and wait for a beautiful typhoon to come along like the one on that link above. i just hope they dont become exstinct before i have the chance to get one.

Re: typhoon for towing???
CARGO & TOWING CAPACITIES The Typhoon, Syclone and Sonoma GT are designed to be high performance vehicles. Cargo and towing are therefore restricted. Typhoon has a cargo rating of 900 lbs. Syclones's cargo box is rated for 500 lbs. Sonoma GT has a 6000-lbs. towing capacity* and a 964 lbs. cargo box rating. *When properly equipped, maximum trailer weight includes trailer, passengers, cargo and equipment. |

Re: typhoon for towing???
The real reason is that if the weight being pulled is too heavy, the engine stays in boost too long. The engine components are stressed and break.
You just have to stay out of the boost for any extended period of time. I knew a guy with a Typhoon with 800 lbs of passengers (three big TX bubba's) and stereo gear in it that still cut 12 sec 1/4's. It was not stock. Huge air to air IC, chip, 2,500 stall, big coolers, but stock transmission. 6 years ago, he had 60K miles on it and still running hard. |
