Sonoma GT..again
So there is a very tragic story behind it, that i don't really want to get into, but i have the chance to buy a Sonoma GT that has (last time i saw it) 100K on the odo, but just had (apparently) $2K worth of work put into ithe body, for $1500. I haven't seen it in a long time, so my two big questions are this...
1. think its worth it? I mean i already know i can't drive it 6 months out of the year... 2. Although i spent some time as a mechanic, i prefer to pay to have other people work on my stuff, are they expensive to work on? i.e. are the 4.3's VERY specific to the sonoma GT, Are the rear ends hard to repair... etc, etc. Thanks! |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
Why can't you drive it 6 months out of the year?
Unless you live in northern Alaska that seems a bit ridiculous. 2K really isn't much for body work, it's either a bad paint job or a collision repair. They're cheap to fix, my daily driver is a 3000GT VR4 now THAT is expensive to fix. Why on earth would you pay anyone to fix your truck if you could fix it yourself? I like to know things are fixed properly and the only way to do that is to fix it myself. I'm far better with a wrench or a welder than any monkey at a shop. |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
I live on the tip of Lake Superior, in a small-ish town Called Duluth, Lots of hills and even more road salt. The Reason i pay other people to do the work is because i was the monkey doing the work for a long time, so i know how to do things right, I a) don't have a place to work on it in the winter, and 2) don't have time as i work 50 to 55 hours a week as a sous chef.
3KGT's are nice, but i wasn't a big fan of just how ridiculously expensive they are to get parts for, much less the pain they are to work on. Thanks for the reply. |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
They are just a typical 4.3 CPI backed by a 700r4 with most likelly a 7 5/8 rear end.
Motor wise, the fuel injestion spider is notorious for going bad and are about $300 too replace. |

![]() ![]() ![]() GUESS My Blazer said LT on the side. whooo. The Sonoma GT is pretty damn simple/cheap to maintain, and the v6 is very common and basically a 3/4 350, so maintenance should be retarded cheap, not to mention the vast amount of junkyard parts that are around. |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
Although,a Sonoma GT is really not all that special other then the lack of #'s built, its a 4.3cpi auto with GFX and a Sy/ty front bumper cover. |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
Yes,this I know,I just ment its pretty plain GFX,except the front bumper cover.Like I said its pretty basic minus the GFX.
IMO,the Came's have a better cladding then the GT's. |

Re: Sonoma GT..again
I dunno. I like the front bumper on a GT waaay better than the Cameo but I guess to each his own.

Re: Sonoma GT..again
Only 806 built one year only, very few left on the road. And aside the "GFX" (cladding) it has Syclone interior minus the embroidery and boost gauge. If you can buy it for that price, yes it's a great deal but I highly recommend NOT driving it in the winter. Keeps it preserved which BTW, Many can say "it's nothing special" but there are still guys like me that look at these the same as SyTy and would pay good money for a nice one, but I've yet to find only 3 in 8 years. Could you please post some pics up?
