Re: slowly putting sy #231 back together

yes its expensive.... I already have all the new sheetmetal.... pretty standard square body s10 stuff.. I have a line on the body cladding and I'm looking at almost 3 grand for all the front stuff..... I've been in close contact with RPM (race proven motors) and for all the driveline items I'm lookin at around 15k including the things that I want to upgrade and I havn't even looked into paint and final bodywork but I want to do a "midnight pearl" black so I'm assuming around 3k so somewhere around 20 large for all of it and thats not even getting into the interior......

Re: slowly putting sy #231 back together

The last three pictures are of my friend Jim's sy(#1070) and we have it torn apart to do a motor swap. we have got a longblock from RPM with a stroker kit and a 0.030 overbore we are planning on using a set of thier ported and polished vortec heads a larger throttlebody stage 2 turbo with external wastegate as well as stainless steel headers and crossover pipe into thier full 3" stainless exhaust we also got rid of the old water/air intercooler and went to a much larger air to air unit to be mounted in the front bumper cover we also went with a new jasper racing trans and had the transfer case and the front diff rebuilt with stronger internals and also machined to allow for the use of larger and stronger half shafts and prop shafts when it all comes together we are going to have the computer remapped and tuned to compensate for all the upgrades

we are hoping that this truck will be able to compete in the low to mid ten second range on the quarter

Re: slowly putting sy #231 back together

these trucks arent to awfully reliable as DD's, and nowadays arent too fast, but in my mind they are great Americana, congrats on saving it. I swear if I ever become wealthy I'm going to own 2, one stock, and the other will only be a sy by the badges and VIN and AWD lol.

Re: slowly putting sy #231 back together

Guessing you are using the removed parts from your buddies truck that are being replaced with aftermarket parts to rebuild yours? Did you get that truck in that condition or did you own it before it got all burnt up?

as far as I know turbo heat burned insulation off nearby wires..... they in turn grounded out and caused an electrical fire

some of them.... the rest will be bought new as we are going for similar goals
but i'd like mine to be a bit more streetable than his.....
and the truck was his when this happened and he gave it to me for helping him with his other one....

I originally toyed with the idea of rebuilding the driveline, putting it on a custom chassis and dropping the body of my 74 chevy luv onto it... and making a crazy fast Luv sleeper but i decided to stay true with this one and do that one some other time
