pump problem
my friend just bought a nissan hardbody with a 2 pump system on it. when he hits the switch one of the pumps sounds like its got a gear grinding but it still works. i was just wondering if anyone knew what might be causing this problem. it sounds really bad and hes afraid to drive it like that.

Re: pump problem
I agree with Eyepoppin. I may have run low on fluid and burnt up the pump head.

Re: pump problem
he just bought the truck yesterday and it started doin that when he got home about an hour later. him and they guy he bought it from played with it for about 45 minutes before he left the guys house so he would know how to work it. i will check the fluid level tonite and see if its low but it doesnt have any signs of leaks so i dont know.
i do know that this has made me decide to keep the airride on my truck and not switch to dros like i was thinking of doin. |

Re: pump problem
Just be sure not to overfill the pump when you check the fluid level.

Re: pump problem
well it isnt low on fluid. i am going to take the pump out tonite and get it checked out by one of the guys at work that does hydraulic systems. he also has a problem where the back end feels like its about to slide out if he drives at any height other than fully lifted.

Re: pump problem
Could have air trapped in the line and moving through the pump head, just my opinion tho.

Re: pump problem
Id say change the oil purge all the oil outta the lines (that u can) take the tank off of the pump and clean it out, make sure there isnt any "huge" chunks of metal in there. There should just be some shavings, that is just fine. just no big chunks...
What kinda pumps are they? |

Re: pump problem
im not sure what brand they are they dont have any markings on them what so ever.
how much would it be to up grade it to a 4 pump setup. he has 8 optima yellow top batteries and only 4 are hooked up right now 2 to each pump. |

Re: pump problem
If i were u since u dont know what kinda pumps those are, i would get a brand new 4 pump setup from Matt at Gauge (link in my sig). Then ull know u have good parts, and then u wont have to worry havin 4 pumps if the 2 are going to give out. Because u do not know if this person that had it before ure boy hooked up 96 volts to the pumps and started hopping with it or not...

Re: pump problem
ok here is what i would do take the moter off the block (two screws on the moter endcap) once you have it off of the block there should be a key (witch connects the moter to block) check that key i would say it sounds like it may be striped out if it is that spline key they are cheep. other than that get a new moter 89.00 for a good one dont be cheep go all out!

Re: pump problem
Yes those turbine pumps are fine. Just so you know all he needs is a street kit. Like this one - http://store.gaugemagazine.com/index...ROD&ProdID=308
