powerball and axle mounts
I know a powerball is designed to pivot quite a bit so 100% vertical alignment isnt necesarry.
wondering though, is there an ideal placement over axle in relation to say factory spring perches, or pinion?(level with pinion, level with fact spring perches, or just wait til i have axle tucked up in notch to find level with bridge) i wanna use c-channel to mount to the axle, but wanna run a longer section than needed to reinforce axle... like 1-ft spans on top, between pumpkin and spring perch, then tubing underneath to reinforce more also, what kind of welder/settings would you use for this c-channel(or for on axle bag brackets basically)? I tried welding 3in c-channel on schedule 40 tubing to test, with a 110 mig, then cut test specimens apart to see inside welds... the only way i think id get enough penetration is to notch into the axle with a grinder a bit, and id rather not do so. i dont know how thick the axle tubing is, and i dont trust cutting into it at all... basically, if (keyword IF) anything is to break off, id rather the powerball break off the c-channel, than the c-channel rip a hole in my axle tubing... |

Re: powerball and axle mounts
when the back is on the ground, set the powerball level on the axle.. c-channel works good for a mount and for reinforcement..as for welding setting.. id set the voltage on high on a 110 mig and adjust the wire speed accordingly... a 110 welder is plenty strong enough to weld anything on your truck..

Re: powerball and axle mounts
an s-10 axle hous is only about 1/8" thick.
unless your axle is rotating alot, the c channel would be fine spotted in place, its sitting on top and has legs on front and rear.. its not going anywhere when welded on 4 sides |
