My Backhalf, and juice install......

Ok, i bought a S10 about 1 months ago. When i got it, it was bagged, with a not-so-nice bag setup. I proceded to bodydrop it, cut the frame off and backhalf it, and also juice it.

Here are some progress pics of the backhalf, and juice setup. Since a body drop has been covered millions of times on here, im not gonna post any pics on that, its pretty easy.

But anyways.

Here is what i started with, it had a really old FBI 4 link on it, and it was a 50 50 setup. It worked for him for years, i think he drove daily on it for almost 4 years, with no problems. But, i dont like air, or the install.

I proceded to strip the frame, and take all my measurements,

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

I then proceded to start the mock up of everything, built the notches, and the lower frame rails, got them all cut and set into place. The setup is made to lay on a 23" wheel. However, i will probably only go with a 22", but the option is thare if something should arrise. The notch looks enormous just sitting thare, but thats because i made the frame continue low to the ground, and not curve up like the stock one.....it gives off an illusion of being way way large, but its not, just enought to lay down on a 23" wheel and tire combo.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

Then i capped the ends of all my rails ware i wasnt going to run my wire, and hydro hoses through. Cut out with an angle grinder and welded into place

Here i am with the basic layout of the frame. The back section will house a fuel cell, and two optima batteries. The pumps will be located up front on the lower frame rails. I am running a 10" cylinders in the back, over the axle, with 3/4ton mini coils. the fuel cell is from summit, and it has all steel braided fuel ines. Also, stainless steel brake lines are being added, and all they hydro setup will be done in stainless steel hardline.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

I then 45deg cut all the rear end box tubing, and welded in place the fuel cell location, as well as some more tubular structure. and set the fuel cell in place for fitment.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

Now i moved on to making the cylinder mounts, and fabbin them into place, as well as making the tubular members for the support of those. I never had alot of experince with welding notched tubing together.....but im gettin better at it.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

I then started plumbing the hydro pumps, with the hardline. That is a ****in bitch, im glad i only have to do it on this install, doin that all the time would get agravating. The complete setup is 2 pumps, 2 dumps, 6" up front 10" back, two optima batterise, 24v street charger.

Im now to the point of finishin the driveshaft hoop, finishin the wishbone for the suspension. Mounting the pumps in theif final location. Then i got hours and hours and hours and hours oof blending welds and shaping everything the way i want it. Then some gussets on locations. all the wires and hoses are going to be routed inside the frames tubing, thats why you see access holes at some points, and ends not capped yet, it will all be hidden inside, besides the cylinders hardlines, those will be visible. Frame is gonna be painted and clear coated.

I will update with some mores pics as i get stuff done.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

sorry, no other pics. I bought it, and dissassembled it in the same day. And put everything from it up for sale that i wasnt gonna use. it was your typical bagged S10 tho, it was nothing special. But the list of shiet im doing to it is a mile long now. I just got my glass for the chop top, so that went alot smoother thatn expected. And the front end swap is on its way, but i will probably save that for after i do the motor work, just to make sure the room is thare.

I wish i did have stock pics of it tho, kinda pisses me off that i forgot to take any, but o well.

auctually, there is no bends in the box tubing.

I cut out of .25 plate steel my notch plates, and tops. Then welded them in like a normal notch, i just cut them out with my plas, and cleaned them up with the grinder, then welded them in. I threw around the ideas of pie cutting, and bending them, but i just didnt see it workin out the way i wanted it to. So i just cut everything i needed, made a jig for it all, and welded them in place. Turned out good. And honestly, alot of ppl have thought i bent some 2x3 for the notch, but its not.

That crossmember is just mocked in place right now. you can see ware the driveshaft hoop is thare, well all undernneth that will be gone, but its just moched up right now. I broke a blade on my bandsaw, and waitin to get a new one before i cut that and box it all in. It will get 10" of lift in the rear. I may swap it out to 14" cylinders tho, and get alittle more.

Im using a cheep ass model i found at harbor freight. Its just a stand alone unit. I won some gift card for thare, and decided to give it a whirl. Well turns out, it works very very well when you use DOM .25 wall tubing, no kinks, or roller marks or anything. Its not a high performance type of tool, but if your confident with tools, and are patient, it really pays for it self. espically for 60$ I dont bend enough tubing to need an expensive one, and the one i would buy if i were to get one, was just to expensive for me to fit in the build budget. .

Thanks

Yea very nice bends on the box tubing. I bet it was alot welding to get it all solid.

Looks good and nice install on hiding the wires and lines and stuff. What happened to your other truck. I remember you were trying to sell it a while ago.

yea, you gotta be pretty accurate with your measurements, and it only does one radius... but what i did was set up a jig, so the piece was bent a the exact same place each time, just welded it to thebender, slid the tube in untill it hit the end of the jig, and pumped the hydraulic pump untill it hit the stopping point for my angle. It wasnt too bad, but im assuming that there will be the haters that wont agree. oh well, Thats one of the first times ive decided to go the "cheep" route on a tool, and its paid off just fine for me.

lol, you must not have read the post

i didnt bend the box tubing at all. cut and plated my own notch, and capped it all off.

I sold my old dime about a year ago, and built a mazda between then and now. then sold the mazda when i was done with it, and now have this.

Well you could

run the hydro pump straight to a large 5 gal nitro accumulator. then run you valves from it Jus like an air ride setup. This way you could hap once or twice. then wait for the comp to refill the main tank.

This way you could get F,B,S,S with one pump and hop on 24V lol
Just a crazy thought.

run the hydro pump straight to a large 5 gal nitro accumulator. then run you valves from it Jus like an air ride setup. This way you could hap once or twice. then wait for the comp to refill the main tank.

This way you could get F,B,S,S with one pump and hop on 24V lol
Just a crazy thought.
hmmmmmm..........

you use the work compressor in thare....but a hydraulic setup dosenthave a compressor, and adding one to beable to compress the nitrogen faster....really would be ponintless.......

The easiest way to hop with 24volts is to just have the accumulators on a gate valve, to turn the on and off and on whenever you would want to, , then just hop it like normal. And for FBSS on one pump, you can just do a single pump, 4 dump setup. It puts alot of strain on the pump, but there are pumps made specifically for that purpose. I have a feeling im not understanding what your saying tho, idk........

Yea, the pumps are going to be mounted on each side of the drive shaft. And the batteries on each side of the fuel cell.

Re: My Backhalf, and juice install......

just a quick Q thier if ya will

have you ever done a set up with the CLY mounted in a peice of pipe?

becus every setup I have seen like that dosent hit sides very well. from what I have seen the cly wants to piviotto the side when you hit sides and witrh the pipe in the way it keeps the cly strait up and down binding up.

I have seen a few setup around hear like that. including my old setup.

if ya read through everything, youll see, its not set up to hit sides. i have no desire to beable to drive down that street sideways. Its a front back setup, ontop of powerballs. And yes, ive done a few setups with the cylinder running inside a pipe, and it allways works wonderfully, and preforms just how i want it to.

whitedime, thanks for the compliments, but you should loook around a bit man, there are tons and tons of sick ass hydro installs on minis or trucks or cars for that matter, lots that arent "lowrider" style. And im willing to bet, that there are twice as many hack jobs that involve air ride than hydros. mainly because air is more popular.
