with a battery charger...

if you get a 12 volt charger you can only do one at a time...but if you got a selectable one...you can do 12...24...36...48 volts...

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

you can use a 12v battery charger on as many batteries as you want. Just make sure you wire them in parallel. I have 2 6amp chargers for 4 batteries. I throw them on overnight, and there done by morning. each charger is hooked up to 2 batteries. I leave mine in the truck. I guess you could take them out if you wanted to but there really is no point.

so you need to unwire them when you want to charge them?
then once they are charged wire them back up?

2 chargers! damn. i just bought a 48 volt charger from batterystuff.com and charged all four of my batteries in series in like 8 hours. plus its a lot cheaper than buying multiple chargers. and the damn thing was so small you can fit it anywhere in the truck to take with you if you have to.

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

to charge your batteries in parallel you connect all the positives together then connect all the negatives together. take the positive lead from the charger put it on the positive post on the first battery. Then take the negative side and connect it to the negative post on the last battery. Make sure its first and last! ALSO DO NOT FORGET TO UNDOE YOUR GROUND WIRE FIRST. i HAVE 9 BATTERIES IF THEY ARE DEAD USUALLY OVERNITE IS LONG ENOUGH.

ALSO DO NOT TURN YOUR CHARGER ON TOO HIGH... THE VOLTAGE IS NOT THE PROBLEM ITS AMPERAGE. DO NOT PUT IT ON HIGH KEEP IT LOW LIKE 2 AMPS OR SOMETHING OTHERWISE YOU WILL COOK YOUR BATTERIES.

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

why not do them all in series? and get a charger that can handle it...why undo all the wires just to charge them just to hook them up again...i know when i used to fix my buddy hydro cars i used to drive them after i fixed them and i would go thru the batteries in one night....

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

Yeah Orange has the right idea, I got a battery charger from Pro Hopper that will charge up to 96 volts. Made charging my batteries easy as making a pie, or cake. Which ever you prefer. lol

street chargers are for lazy people. why drop $300 when you can buy a $150 charger, charge all your batteries over night and be good for a month. besides, the streets charger does not charge the batteries all the way. and will cause premature battery failure. you still have to have a battery charger to give them a full charge.

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

You could get a high output alternator that would charge them while you cruise around. If you have the 4.3L you can get a 300 amp that will bolt on with no mods.

that would only work it you are running a 12v juice setup and most people run higher volts

a one hour charger is ok but it does more harm to your batteries than good. the best way to charge a battery is a trickle charge. charge them for a a couple hours. a one hour charger is too harsh on batteries....thats why it only cost you 50 bucks

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

i Dont see the big deal in having to move a couple wires around once every 2 weeks or so.. It only takes like 20 seconds to do it.. Depending on where your batteries are, i guess. But Yeah, the slower you charge it, the better. When you charge a battery too fast, it will eventually decrease the life of the battery.

i use 2 $25 chargers from walmart.. there 6amp chargers. with selectable 2 or 4 amp settings as well. Just plug em in overnight. 2 batteries per charger, And they are done in the morning.. My batteries are commercial grade batterys from a tractor trailer, there like 1300CA's and it onyl takes like 8 hours or so to charge 2... So with 2 chargers, i charge all 4 batterys in like 8 hours. And they last for like 2-3 weeks.

Problem with street chargers, or multi battery chargers, Is there just expensive.. Those chargers that do up to like 8 batteries in serise are like $400. And a street charger is between $400-500.. So for me its just easier, to spent $60 on chargers... It would be pointless to spend $400 for something i only have to worry about once every 2 or 3 weeks. And like i said, it takes like 5 minutes to fully rewire the batteries to parallel, and hook up the chargers.

Re: How do I charge my batteries?

Depending on how many batteries you have and how much you play with your switches will all come in to play when you talk about how long the batteries last. if you only have like three batteries for your front end or something and intend on hitting switches like a mad man then yeah your batteries will be dead in a night. In our crew we all do it the same way.. the charger i have cost me $ 150 Canadian. Its a 12 volt charger and I have 9 batteries i charge them once a week for about 6 hours. They last quite a while and its a lot cheaper than buying alot of chargers.

I find this way only takes me about 5 minutes to get them wired in parallel and then i leave them overnight.

Talking Re: How do I charge my batteries?

i agree with ass draggin sdime if you hook them up paralell on low amp charge{2amp} overnite it is sufficient, and cheap also check out a golf cart service facility, i got a 36 volt charger from a place like this in phoenix when i lived there fore 150 bucks and i made a plug from my batteries so the charger just plugs in, but just like someone posted in this thread ealier disconnect your ground. my 1st 3 trucks were on juice so in got a little practice over time, used to use 3 cheap chargers but it all worked out about the same for the 36 volt golf cart charger. ps if any body knows peeps looking to trade some juice for bags hit me up on the pm, i want juice back.
