Coil question.

All right you guys. 1st gen. with a 2.5... What should I run for coils? I've had a ride with hydraulics before, but don't know what ton to run on this application. I had an 1983 Chevy Malibu wagon with a small block and ran 4.5 tons in the front and 1 tons in the back, but it was set up as a hopper. This truck is a lot lighter and the motor is a lot smaller. I just wanna drag it, no funny business (hoppin). Body dropped on some 18s or 20s.

Re: Coil question.

i run 1/2 ton fullsize coils front and rear on my 91 and i like the way it rides. i'm redoing the rear now with a link and will be using accumulators instead of coils so it lays lower but will stick to the 1/2 ton coils in the front. i also use JDM dropped lower arms to be able to run about 3 more inches of coil up front and still lay.

Yeah I know... I had 4.5 tons in my last ride. I liked how it rode. But only in a lowrider. I don't want a mini to roll stiff like that.

So if get 2 accumulators for the back wont have to use coils at all in the back? Because ive seen people use springs with accumulators so i didnt know ya could use just them

I've only seen people run accumulators without coils on FWD cars. I don't know how good it would work on something heavier.

i've talked to lots of people on lay it low.com that run accumulators only on big cars like caddies and impalas with no problems and they ride great. search for rdkustoms on here, he runs an s-10 with no coils front or rear with 4 accumulators and says it rides great, infact i talked to him about it at ITB and he said he plans to be adding shocks soon and it will ride even better.

Re: Coil question.

Ive ran cylinders with accumulators and no coils on a S-10 truck before. ITs a great ride.

My personal favorite setup for a bodydropped mini on hydros is:

cut 1-ton mini coils up front

3/4 ton mini coils out back.

great ride, and you can roll at .25" above the ground, and NEVER bottom out on bumps.
