Re: Welding Industry

you gotta go find some old timers and learn from them.. they got all the tricks down. just about everything i know, i picked up from guys in their 60s. Aside from that if you got the coin, you can go to a plase like wyotech or whatever, But i still think the best way is to watch some old timers, and ask them lots of questions.. Most of them would be happy to teach the trade to someone interested enough.

It's safe to say you won't be too successful at "learning about the welding industry."

Re: Welding Industry

try to get on some kind of apprenticeship program..

i just got on a pipe fitter program a little over a month ago.. best job ive ever had so far! getting paid to go to school one day a week, working at the plant the other 3 days(4-10's) plus overtime. its a 4 year apprenticeship. in the end i will either be a certified welder, or layout person. im gonna go for welding.. learning to bend tubing, everything. best paying job ive ever had too.

Re: Welding Industry

legit pipe welders make bank. A guy i used to work with was a licensed pipe welder. He left the shop we were at and got a job welding pipe making $60 an hour. He had a helper who made $30 an hour, and he would grind and fit the joint, Get all the rods ready and shit And the dude i worked with would just weld the joint.. He'd have the helper sit there handing him rods all day lol

Re: Welding Industry

I did it for a while take in mid im only 23 went to votech at 18 quit the welding program but obtained several certs for pipe both in stainless and carbon, got off my lazey ass went to the port passed a 6g weld test, made 19 bucks an hr double time afeter 8 on 7 12's got the know how after about 4 mos of welding in a pipe rack, quit went to lousianna made more money, wemt to Catlisburg kentucky got a job paying 34 an houre double time after 8 on a 7 12's job banking about 32-3600 a WEEK after taxes and stayed with the company for almost 2 years. then one nite went to the bar gout drunk as hell took the youg girl back to my RV boned the shit outa her and 9 mos later was a daddy with another fll time job ''DAD'' and now a police officer making less in one year than i did in 8 weeks of welding. Point is learn to weld and dont quit learning, use protection and put your money in the BANK. and my lil boy is almost old enough now i can hang the duty belt up and go make some real money to fund my s10 and rock crawler's
